Is it normal if texting got us closer?

I was dating this guy and it was really up and down and just unhealthy. We finally moved apart and I was scared of not staying touch with each other but turned out we couldn't leave each other alone. We talked so much more than we did in person. Our conversations were more serious, and we got to know each other really well. I think he realized what he had with me and all those times we spent with each other was really all he had. Once I left, he was just really bored and didn't know what else to do. I was also missing him but I had things to look forward to so I wasn't as anxious as he was. He is older so he is more settled with a job and home while I'm just starting so I had things to do. But anyways, we would text and talk to each other and eventually set up dates when we would see each other. Ideally, I would go to him because he has his own place and it was just more convenient. However, I wasn't only gonna go to him and it was kind of a test to see if he would come to me. And so surprising and how undeniably happy it made to see the effort in him to come and see me. I couldn't believe it. I mean if he was just bored and missed someone around, I don't think he would've come to see me. But after the first time he came to see me, he came back a few more times with every other time me going to him. Eventually we got closer and now live in the same area again and officially together. It's going to be a year as official and its just crazy to me to see how I guess we needed that space to miss each other and how just communicating via text got us closer. We would never be able to communicate in person like that before and now due to how much we got to know each other through the phone, its so much easier to talk to each other in person.

In your case it would be normal, since you two are now having a long distance relationship it goes with the old saying "You don't know what you had until it's gone'' and now that it's gone (Meaning your boyfriend) you realized you need eachother.
