Is it normal if sociopaths act like this

So I just started this new job. Recently ive noticed a few things about one of my co workers. Im suspecting shes a sociopath of some sort. or something. She has a really wicked dark playful sarcastic sense of humor. All the customers love her. The thing is, when she is talking to or joking with them, she DOES NOT LAUGH OR SMILE ALONG WITH THEM.

She keeps the jokes comin and rollin, the playful sarcasm coming, but when you look at her face. its non chalant. its cold. its serious. its dull.

I dont understand this at all. Does she look at them like minions. why wont she laugh or smile. its a contradiction because she talks to her customers like "ok sugar" "allright baby doll" "sure thing sweetie pie" and all kinds of otherwise sociable things, but her disposition is COLD. Idk its hard to explain

guys what would you make of a person like this. Is she secretly some kind of dark twisted sociaopath who looks down on others? i dont get it!

It's called having a dry sense of humor.

Obviously, having a dry wit and being a sociopath are clinically the same condition. Derr.

wait, if someone doesn't laugh at their own jokes, that makes them a dark twisted sociopath who looks down on everyone?

  • I guess I would qualify as a sociopath too, then. I have a rather sick and twisted sense of humor. I make fun of everything and anything. Starving african kids, rape, cancer, you name it. I don't literally find these things funny in general, but some of the best jokes are derived from some of the most taboo or otherwise serious subjects. Just because your coworker doesn't laugh at her own jokes, doesn't make her a sociopath. I don't nessecarily laugh at every joke I make, I'm just not a douchebag like that.

I dunno, it does sound rather odd. I don't typically laugh at my own jokes, but I tend to smile or make silly faces. I think laughter is a natural part of witty banter, and that volly that happens between people engaged in such conversations.

Not to pull anything out of my proverbial ass, but what you're describing rather reminds me of how people described Jodi Arias. I heard people on TV talk about how she seemed to be mirroring other people in her interactions with them, she was looking for cues, she didn't have anything authentically hers to contribute. After all her goal like that of any sociopath is to control and manipulate. Manipulative people can't afford to be authentic, because to be authentic would make them vulnerable to rejection thus undermining the control they seek to exert over others.

    Symptoms of antisocial personality disorder:

    1. Naturally funny
    2. Doesn't laugh at one's own jokes
    3. Casually uses terms of endearment with strangers
