Is it normal if i stopped taking my antidepressants?

I have been on antidepressants for about two years now. I have been on about four different types because none of them have really seemed to work. I was put on them for mild depression and anxiety. I am considering stopping them because I think it would be better for me to face my problems on my own. I know I am the only one who can make this descison but I would love some feedback. Thanks!

My friend was on antidepressant for 4 years and then suddenly stopped. He felt physically aweful without them. It was almost like going cold turkey. Just make sure you are doing it properly with a doctor supervision. Friend is fine now by the way, all he did was to change his life curcumstances that made him generally happier. You just need to realise what is it thats making you feel depressed and then do something about it. Another one of my friends was thinking about starting to take the pills, and he was drinking too much,,, and once we talked properly about it and the only thing that was making him unhappy is that he still livesd at parents house and wanted some independance. He recently moved out... And now he's doing much better. Just be honest with yourself in what it is thats making you miserable.

I was on effexor for 5 months but last month stopped because they werent working. I was taking them for anxiety and at the beginning they were great, made me mellow the fuck out then after a couple months they did fuck all for the anxiety. Being bulletproof to depression was a nice perk but I was back at square one for my other social problems. And like you I decided that masking my hatred for people through pills is a bad idea like putting a band aid on a bullet wound, so I stopped them cold turkey. My withdrawal symptoms only lasted for 5 days but they fuckin sucked. I felt hung over nausea all the time and every time I looked side to side quickly Id get a zolt of car sickness in my stomach. Yours will probably last longer being on them for so long and all. I feel like it was one of the best decisions ive made in my life so far. Good luck and dont trust the Irish.

It depends on what pills you take some of them are much more addicting than others. If you decide to stop you should probably do it gradually because it can be dangerous or at least very unpleasant to just stop taking them. Ask your doctor who prescribed them the best way to wean off.

Good for you! You should face your own problems. Pills are just a bandage solution. Do you know what people use to do? They use to deal with it and get over it. Grandpa died what do I do? You cry and get over it and one day except it. You did not take pills till years later you have to face they left and have a melt down. A lot of depression medications side effects are suicide and depression. They dont fix the problem they cripple you. You can only ignore it for so long. Soon enough you will have to face what is really bothering you.

I wouldn't quit cold turkey. Have your physician ween you off of them.

When I forget too take mine I have homicidal and suicidal thoughts and I get very angry.

haha here's a funny quotation from one of my buds " before you diagnose yourself with anxiety or depression, make sure your not just surrounded by assholes".

Sometimes it's just your circumstances and making some changes to get what you really want makes a huge difference.

I stopped taking those types of medication and haven't had any serious problems. I haven't regretted it yet.

If you aren't taking them because you have or could possibly harm yourself or others, then go for it! It's definitely a more ideal approach if you're simply trying to better yourself.
