Is it normal if i'm seeing this everywhere?

I was going to write a post on here about whether or not being "sleepy" all the time is a part of beig depressed and as soon as I thought that, the answer is like thrown to my face everywhere ! First I saw an article on fb and I was like oh OK it is normal, then I heard somewhere that your body is also physically low not just mentally so that means yeah u can feel sleepy. Now I saw on Lena Dunham's instagram a post saying something like "taking a nap each day (or its a sign of depression)" I'm like wtf ?! Why all of a sudden I'm seeing this everywhere? Obviously my question has been answered and now I know that yes feeling sleepy and tired often is normal for depression. But I still find it so odd that before thinking this, I never heard came across this until I did start thinking this. Weiiirddd.

It could be some strange force communicating with you (I'm all for those possibilities), or it could be something more mundane. The brain is inundated with stimuli from the senses, so it has to discriminate the important from the less important and narrow it's focus. Before you had this interest, your brain filtered out stuff you saw/heard regarding depression and sleep as less important and now your brain knows you think it's more important and doesn't filter it out. Boring, I know, but is possibly the answer.

It's called selective perception, and it is almost certainly the answer.

      • Yeah perhaps this is what happens a lot of times in many cases, not just my depression. But does this still apply to something you are not thinking about yet it is an important subject in your life and you come across it often? So i.e, if a loved one passed away or you just broke up with your ex, and you're going through your day not thinking about it at all, then their name pops out of no where and often? Is this the same thing? I would think so but at the same time, what if you literally aren't interested in that subject anymore and yet you come across something related to them all the time? I guess it's an unconscious thing.

Yes. Selective perception is an unconscious process.

I was going to say that the universe is conspiring to inform you that you are probably depressed, but Ariies probably said it better.
