Is it normal if i get irritated by pple who say "you can't handle your liquor"?

There's that saying "you can't handle your liquor" and ya it gets annoying when that statement applies every now and then. But what's even more annoying is why do people judge others who drink to get drunk? Isn't that the point? Are those same pple just drinking to have the look of drinking? There's also tipsy which I could understand its more acceptable than bilegerant drunk, but even if they do get that wasted leave them alone, that's what drinking does to you, not just to look that you're drinking. I get irritated more by those who judge than the bilegerant drunks. Like shut up so that "can't handle your liquor" statement isnt always true, it's just stupid close minded pple missing the point here.

  • "can't hold/handle your liqour" usually applies to people who don't know their limits. When I drank booze -I drank to feel good and enjoy the social occasion, not to get shitfaced and puke all over the bar/party. <- the latter is the exact meaning of the phrase.

it's not about being drunk, in my opinion it's about your behavior when intoxicated.

    • I agree, when you drink, you go through learning your limits. I guess the saying does make sense if its applied to that. But if the drinking doesn't do anything to you, and you like it that way cause you don't wanna look shitfaced, why are you drinking? Its annoying that some people just drink to look that they're drinking.
I also drink to feel good, I like what it does to me and I know my limits but I let it do something to me, not just drinking for the sake of drinking.

It's not a phrase I tend to hear that often. Not because people don't say it here, but because anybody who knows me knows I can drink.

It is a bit of a stupid phrase, though. You wonder why people say it. I mean, I'd never look at a man in a restaurant undoing his belt and laugh at him saying he couldn't handle his food.

  • So you enjoy making a fool of yourself then? Drinking to get drunk gets real old real fast, not to mention embarrassing. It's alright if you are a kid, which you probably are, but getting drunk, visibly drunk is not a good character trait.

I drink but I dont drink to get drunk.

    • Like I said above, as long as it does something to you and you let it, its all good as opposed to just drinking for the sake of drinking, whats the point?
If the people get shitfaced drunk after drinking, well thats one of the results of drinking. Knowing your limits like the guy said above is learned throughout your days of drinking. So eventually you learn, but thats what alcohol does to you.
So to answer your question, I rather make a fool out of myself being drunk than making a fool out of myself just drinking to blend in with the crowd because "I don't wanna get drunk", wth is that crap.

      • How exactly does one make a fool out of themselves by socially drinking??

Enjoy your reputation as always being the person who ALWAYS has too much to drink.

        • Obviously you're oblivious that you confused my statement "drinking to blend in" and your statement "socially drinking". What I meant with my statement is people don't even realize (probably like you) that they're drinking so they don't feel left out. They think its "socially drinking". But eh why waste my time on someone like you who's blind to see that. Enjoy your "socially drinking"

Not everyone drinks to get drunk, so they aren't missing any point. Too many people can't handle their liquor and need to be told something, even an annoying phrase. They are obnoxious and rude and tend to grope and drool. Its not appealing or cute. I don't want to be the one getting puked on either.

        • Exactly, that's what I thought. No other reason. Thanks for proving my point more.

I don't think I helped prove your point. I think you were trying to make a few points but you sort of contradict yourself.

            • As in what? you clearly failed giving me another reason why people drink. I don't know if you were being serious about "cause theyre thirsty" or you're just being sarcastic. Either way, you don't know even know yourself whats another reason to drink so you gave a lousy answer.
