Is it normal if i can't listen to music that's got lyrics?
I love music. At one point 2 years ago I had a collection of some 2000 tracks but only 20 or so had lyrics.
This has an interesting backstory. I was a hardcore nerd back in my primary school. In my late primary school years I felt left out because I refused to say any swear words to be part of my classmates' circle. And if they say something I don't understand and I ask what that word meant, chances are it's a swear word and it becomes a scandal that I supposedly said a swear word.
I started avoiding doing what they did. Everything. Watching movies, WWE, whatever it was. Of course this also included listening to songs. It seems like I was making a statement, but I am not sure who the audience was.
The consequence of this is that I can't connect music and lyrics together. I can only listen to one. I find it extremely difficult to sing along. I can never fully understand what the lyrics got to say without looking the song up, and even then, I still feel very uncomfortable listening to songs.
It's been almost 14 years since then, and it didn't affect me much until now, because I want to learn a new language. I have many immediate friends who learned a truckload of expressions from songs....
