Can't take the pressure? Loosen up maybe. But playing with friends is also a lot different than playing against better people as well. When I was younger I swam for my neighborhood's team against other neighborhoods. I never lost a single race in breaststroke, I thought I was amazing. Then I join a club team with my brother that does meets in different states, I got demolished against the better swimmers who devote their life to swimming errryday for long hours and keep in stellar shape.
I have a similar issue. I like basketball, I'm not bad when I play with my friends but when I play a pick-up game with strangers I often disappoint myself. I think its performance anxiety. With your friends you're comfortable, with strangers you feel pressure to compete with other men and the nerves get to you. Just practice, keep playing games with strangers and one day you will have a testosterone surge that will give you a boost of confidence to preform to the best of your ability. Start by playing defense and going for rebounds, those positions don't require a whole lot of dexterity, and there's no pressure on you to make a shot. That will help your confidence.
