Iin? ibuprofen is the only one that works

I suffer from frequent, intense headaches, so i always keep a bottle of pills with me. ive tried many different kinds, asprin, Tylenol (acetaminophen), aleve(naproxen), Motrin, and Advil (ibuprofen)

Of these, Ibuprofen based painkillers are the only ones that work for me, nothing else works in the slightest.

is it normal ibuprofen is the only thing that works?

It's an excellent medication but I can't take it any more because of a heart attack a few years ago and have trouble with some doctors giving me scripts for painkillers for my arthritis and migraines ......

Don't take it on an empty stomach or you can do liver damage and I think maybe kidney damage too?

The headaches you describe are definitely migraines and there are drugs specifically for migraine which probably work better than anti-inflammatories, as migraines aren't caused by inflammation but dilation of blood vessels to the brain (ie from cannabis, which is a bummer cause I only recently worked out)& can be triggered by all sorts of things. It'd be a good idea to get yourself checked out in case there's a physical cause that could be remedied.

I don't know if the specific migraine drugs work because the moronic doctor who prescribed them for me didn't check the manufacturer's website and they can't be used by anyone who's had a heart attack, which I didn't find out til I checked before I started taking them. Waste of money! not mine, the taxpayers', as I qualify for free scripts til the end of this year.

IM toridol. It's IBuprophen on steroids. It's one of the strongest NSAIDS on the market. U need a scrip in most states for it though. They sell it in the pharms in Mexico. Idk how close to the border u are. I used to have these killer cluster headaches and they wouldn't give me good meds because I'm a former heroin addict, so I suffered for over 3 months before some er doc that was sick of seeing me there, decided to actually DO something. It's like magic. They jab u in the ass with it and within seconds you feel the pain just melt away. Works all day too. Only bummer is it's hard on the liver and kidneys. If u take it on a daily basis ur gonna end up peeing blood or worse. RENAL FAILURE DUN DUN DAAAAHHH!

  • Oddly, ive noticed this not just on headaches, but on other aches as well. For example, my back was hurting last weekend, and i had to work the next day, and i had some Aleve. I knew it didn't work for my headache, but i figured it might work for this, (the damn commercials reccomend it for arthritis after all, and 12 hours!) Took it, it did nothing for my back.

Both sound like inflammatory issues. Not sure what naproxen is...will have to look it up.

Edit: ah. It's NSAID too. Maybe it comes down to your individual chemistry?

It's funny but if I remember correctly the recomended safe dosage of ibuprofen is usually about half of its analgesic dosage. It's probably the antipyretic effect which helps your migraine.

I think it depends on the type of pain. Ibuprofen is an NSAID, so it's anti inflammatory, which helps with headaches.

Only thing that works for me if I let a headache get too far is ibuprofen/codeine. But mine rapidly progress to migraines.

    • I dunno if its migranes, but when i get a heaeache, it tends to be intense, throbbing, and the pain is on one side, mostly right around the eye.

        • Mostly light. It doesn't happen all the time, but it will happen usually a few times a month. I always keep a bottle of ibuprofen with me for when it happens.

Its rather sporadic when it happens, one month, it may be as often as three times in a week, it maybe only once a week, other times it may only be twice in a month.

Ugh. I can totally relate. I hate using pills, so my first line (if I can) is to get somewhere dark and go to sleep. If it gets too set in, I puke everywhere. I had one so bad a few months ago that I lay in bed sobbing for 11hrs wishing I was dead. Considered going to the doctor for an injection.

Do you know what triggers it? For me it's stress, dehydration, crab meat or muscle tension in my neck, usually. Though sometimes it seems like just because :/:(

If you haven't seen a doctor, you should consider it. It can be something serious.

Ya. Advil almost always works for me. Tylenol does sometimes. That's about it.
