Is it normal i want to travel the world before i get married/get a perm job?

I'm seriously considering traveling the world with my fiance within 3 years. If we don't get good steady fulltime jobs that are secure, why not just save up and travel?

I'd like to travel for a minimum of 6 months straight , but am aiming for 1 year in full.

I currently reside with my parents as does he. I know he can't save up much because his parents are broke at the moment and he needs to pay off bills for them.. But if I continue to do so for at least another 12 months, I could potentially save up a few thousand right there. Then, if we move into an apartment and we both work fulltime for a year, we could save up more, ditch the apartment and go.

Is this a silly dream or no? I have friends in some of the countries so if needs be, I could stay with them. I'd like to travel to at least 10 different countries within Europe.

Let me know if this is super silly or what.

My inspiration comes from the fact that my fiances 2 sisters have never worked in their entire life and the fact that I have never had off more than a month in my entire life (even in high school, I worked on breaks). Also, the biggest family/friend vacation I had was 2 weeks..nothing.

Extra info: My fiance is almost graduated college-he will graduate within 6 months. I have graduated college.

Help me out, thanks!! :D

Friends of mine did this before they settled down and had kids. The travelled the entire world and had an adventure I can only begin to dream about. I'd urge anyone who has the means to do this, to actually do it. I'm currently saving up and planning a one year sabbatical from work so that I can travel the world before I get older.

Agree with Dapple. Echoes suggests you take a month to travel every year. Haha. Good luck with that. The only career that would allow that would be teaching and even then you couldn't afford it. I say if you want to do it now do it. Many young adults in other countries travel after graduating and I think ot would be a great life expeince uf you can afford it. Echoes says traveling for the sake of traveling is pointless. What a crock of bs. Do it if you want to! Once you have jobs and a family you won't be able to!!

In fact I do have a very good luck with that! I'm entitled to a 30-day paid annual leave and my company pays 50% of the airfare to where ever I wanna go. If want more, I can have a 15-day unpaid leave after six months of the annual vacation.

The people above me. Are nothing but a bunch of show offs. Do what you think is right. Asking random people to give you advice on your future. Isn't really a smart thing to do. You know yourself more than anyone.

Once you are in an apartment count on your money quickly disappearing. Also remember that student loans generally start 6months after graduating (repayment).

Traveling for the sake of traveling sounds purposeless unless you're escaping from something.
Here's better idea... Finish college, both of you get good jobs, get married, no kids, save money, and go on vacation as a family for a month every year for as many years as you want, you can continue that even after having kids.
Intermittent breaks are much better than putting your life on hold for one long single break that has no purpose. Annual vacations are good for your mental health and for your future marriage as well.
