Is it normal i think in, il and oh make up the 'trailer park' of the us?

Seriously, there is a HUGE amount of poor trash who inhabit Indiana, Illinois and Ohio.

I've come to call that area the 'Trailer Park' of the US. The scenery is drab and depressing, the people tend to be on the fat and ugly side, and even the names of the towns are shit. Gary, IN. Akron, OH. Dekalb, IL.

There's NOTHING good in this area. OK maybe Chicago, but that might as well be in Wisconsin, it's close enough. Wisconsin should fight Illinois for control of Chi Town and then we can excavate around those 3 states and let the Great Lakes expand into a mote around this hell hole of a region so as to cut it off from the US.

I'm sure there are poor regions all over the place, perhaps these are just the ones you're most familiar with? I do find it kind of funny that IL has Chicago and the rest of it is pretty much farmlands and factories and really nothing else.

But all that aside, I am a bit bothered that you would consider everyone who's had less fortune in life to be trash. Yes there are some people out there who are lazy and live off the government and just don't care, but there are just as many poor people who are there because of circumstance and bad luck (when you're poor you have to work, possibly putting education on the backburner, which keeps you poor) and to call those people trash reflects way more poorly on you than their situation does on them.

"(when you're poor you have to work, possibly putting education on the backburner, which keeps you poor)"

Rarely do I ever hear people acknowledge this but it's a truth. Personally, I have to work full-time to pay bills but I was fortunate to be able to get a graveyard job so I can go to school during the day. This isn't an option in most industries. The time and energy that working takes makes it incredibly difficult to be able to attend school.

I'm actually in the opposite situation of people who have to work. My parents are very adamant about me getting through college, they're helping keep me supported because I can't find a job that will work with my hours as a student. It's frustrating. x.x

I'd say your parents are doing it right. I wish my parents would have supported me through college but it just wasn't going to go down like that. I'd prefer to have the time to take whatever classes I need and focus on school so your parents have the right idea.

I am not fond of this region but there are plenty of other areas that are just as bad. You left out Michigan, they are victim to similar economic problems as Ohio. And parts of PA suffer the same. I've not spent much time in the south but from what I understand, they are the butt of many jokes for a reason. And have you seen Bakersfield, CA. That place is gross. So is Barstow for that matter. And parts of the desert are hellish too.

And the southern parts of IL, IN, an OH are really quite pretty, especially in the fall.

The sad truth is that these areas you complain about will likely get worse as industry crumbles in this country.

    • I spent some time in San Francisco
I spent a night there in the can
They threw this drunk man in my jail cell
I took fifteen dollars from that man

Left him my watch and my old house key
Don't want folks thinkin' that I'd steal
Then I thanked him as I was leaving
And I headed out for Bakersfield

Hey you don't know me but you don't like me
You say you care less how I feel
But how many of you that sit and judge me
Have ever walked the streets of Bakersfield?

I guess you will know the tune

Every state, hell every county has their own trailer park area, as you deem it.

Heck, West Virginia is the stereotyped backwards, redneck, inbred state, yet we have some of the highest quality vacation areas, produced renown scientists, won multiple national & international awards for our infrastructure designs, and built some incredible pieces of technology (Green Bank Observatory, for example.)

So, I believe your assumptions are short sighted and misinformed based on a very limited experience of these places.

LOTS of places have this reputation, but that doesn't make it completely true. I'm sure there's a minority, but don't say we ALL do it. Ick.

That's kind of fucked up. I used to live in a trailer park (yes, I know it was a metaphor) and many of the people living there are genuine victims of circumstances that are so complex that to sit here and name them all would take me a lot longer than I am interested in taking to answer this question so I will leave it at that.

However, I have never been to any of these states and the only family members I have that occupy these states are uh... well, by typical definition would be considered white trash... teen mommies, druggies etc. I understand why they do it and I know their stories and I'd be damned if I'd give any of them money (I am not close to them anyway) but I don't think they should represent the populace of a state I'd never been to XD

When I think of Trailers, I think of the South. Actually, I don't really think anything positive about the South. Of course, the South and Mid-West aren't the only poverty ridden places here.

Have you ever been to any of these states and actually stayed for more than the six hours it takes to drive through?

I grew up in Indiana and am now sitting at work in Illinois. I've been all over this country for weeks at a time and so I have something to back up what I'm saying.

Yes, there are trailer parks and poor sections in the whole Midwest. However, thinking that these are only present in the Midwest would be entirely wrong.

If you want to just talk about poverty rate, we can. As it stands, California and New York, which I'm sure you consider wonderful states, have higher poverty rates than do Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio.

As for the claim that there's nothing to do in these states, I'd actually have to agree to a point. We do have amusement parks and all of that, but our economy is not dependent on tourism so no one expects there to be a lot to do.

    • You misunderstood me. When I say it's the 'trailer park' of the US I mean that metaphorically. US, overall a nice place. Those states, are the 'trailer park'. The embarrassment. The bad real estate. The eyesore. The place where nobody actually WANTS to live. EVERY other area has more than enough redeeming qualities to make up for any drawbacks, those states don't have enough positives to make up for their crappyness.

Did you hear about the cannibal in florida? It happened earlier this year but the guy was reported to be on bath salts, but then later on I read a news report on tumblr that said that the guy had a strange and highly contagious illness and that they luckily managed to quarantine the other people that had it.
