Is it normal i think calling people "baby" in bed is unsettling?

Especially if someone's pregnant? It's also weird in the sense that you're calling someone who you're making love to (supposedly an adult) a baby.

Am I the only one who thinks this way?

I think that is weird, in general, to refer to your significant other as "baby". Just as weird as it would be to play Justin Beaver's song "Baby, Baby, Baby!" whilst having sex. Anytime is a very strange rims to be calling your mate "baby".

Agreed - it is very strange to be rimming your mate whilst calling them 'baby' :P

Maybe it's more in touch with your subconscious than you are :D

Yeah, I agree. I think pet names are weird "hey, babe" "baby will you pass me the pepper" "babe that dress looks great on you" "baby do me harder" just shut up with the babe and baby talk, it's so overused...

I didn't go through college to have someone call me a baby..lets be adults. If I'm sleeping with someone I want to hear "is that all you have you nasty slut?" Or "f*** me you dirty whore"

Nope, not weird. Think of the nickname honey bun or sweet cakes, those are some bizarre names lol.

    • Maybe it's because English isn't my first language, huh?

English is my first language and I've always thought it weird too.

        I understand darling, honey etc.

But baby, or babe, just sounds weird to me.

Okay, so in your country, do they not use the word baby to represent a lover? This is quite common in many countries and can't imagine where it is not.

I don't know? I must've asked this question for ~fun~. The answer is quite obvious to many people and I can't imagine to whom it's not.

In all seriousness, I come from China. It's a shame you can't imagine it. Our language system employs symbols not the Roman alphabet. So, what can be understood as "baby" can also be heard as "treasure" and so forth.

Many people interpret it as treasure in a bedroom sense. It just makes more sense.

It`s probably more safe to call someone "Baby"
Then at least one can`t mix up the names :-)

I don't think so, but that's just me. "Baby" stands for cuteness and tenderness and affection; it's not meant to be taken literally or as a direct comparison. There are other words like this, such as "honey", which aren't meant to be taken literally either.
