Is it normal i take off my smelly shoes on a bus?

Its funny when I get on a bus, and take off my shoes, and then the people around me would make funny faces and say things like, " Fuckin smelly! ". Is this normal?

Just smelling dirty armpits was enough. Then having an homeless man that smelled like garbage and piss made me want to throw up. Keep your shoes on.
