Is it normal I Often Wonder How Much Human Feces Is Produced In One Day?

Like if you took all the fecal excrement produced all over the world in a day and piled it up...and make a giant heap of shit. I spend a good portion of the day wondering how big it would be. Other parts of the day are spent on the toilet adding to the heap. IIN?

    Lol that's weird. Maybe you should think about how many people around the world are starving or dying from diseases or war.

    I do sometimes like to think about how many people in the world are having sex in any given moment. It's a lot more amusing to ponder on.

    Where does all the shit go? That's what I wonder about.

    Wow man, wow. Cool math problem. Let's do it!

    1. Daily_weight_of_shit_per_body_weight = (your_weight_before_taking_shit - your_weight_after_taking_shit) / your_weight_after_taking_shit;

    2. Total_weight_of_humanity = 7,000,000,000 * average_weight_of_a_person;

    3. Total_daily_weight_of_human_shit = Daily_weight_of_shit_per_body_weight[from 1.]* Total_weight_of_humanity [from 2.]

    If you know the density of shit, you can estimate the pile size by knowing that the volume_of_a_cone = (1/3)*pi*r^2*h. Of course this is only an estimate, but the central limit theorem is working in your favor.

    Thanks man.
    That *made* my day.

      what a shitty tease. I thought yall were some calculus genius. at least do the math

      1 about 3/4 lb per per person per day

      2 7,000,000

      3 about the same as water, mebbe a bit less. call it 60 pounds of shit per cubic foot

      (.75 x 7,000,000)/60 = 87,500 cubic feet

      cube root that and its a cube of shit about 44 feet on a side or about 110 of them 30 yard roll off dumpsters what fits on the back of a truck

      ill leave it to yall to figure out a cone

        Sorry. You've got a error. There are 7 billion people in the world, not 7 million. So at step 3,

        (.75 X 7,000,000,000)/60 = 87,500,000 ft^3

        This is a cube of shit 444 feet on a side, or 110,000 roll off dumpsters.

        BTW, calculus in unnecessary for a problem this simple. But calculus could be used to calculate the heat given off by the shit as it decomposes. (From thermodynamics, remember that rate of heat radiated is proportional to the 4th power of the absolute temperature). I ignored that part of the problem because I didn't think the OP cared.

          yep yalls right and im off by one order of that there magnitude

          accordin to the internet if yall collected all that shit and treated it in a bioreactor yall could net 70 btu per person worth of methane per hour which means yall could continuously produce about 145 gigawatts

          run it through a 50% efficient powerplant and yall net about a sixth of us energy consumption (4,095,000 {gigawatt hours used in 2012 accordin to DOE} /24h/365d)=a continuous average of 467 gigawatts

          or enough to continuously send 60 deloreans to 1955

          note that these calculations don't take into account the shit that spews from obamas mouth every day. that might double it

            Interesting. I'll give your observation about Obama's rhetoric a thumbs up as well.
