Is it normal i'm 21 and my mom hates the thought of me dying my hair?

Yes we live together, and I help pay the rent. In fact I pay a larger portion of it and it's easier living in this area and sharing rather than paying rent myself. My mom has always thought of my hair as hers, so it pains her already that the bottom layer of my hair is bleached blonde. When I was looking at pictures of purple manic panic dyes she asked if I was going to bleach all of "her" (my) pretty hair. I told her it's just so that the dye I choose shows up better but she's still complaining about what people will think. I can't move out. This house will be mine in the future. How can I calm her down? My dad who lives in a retirement residential area is cool with it, so is my gf who wants me to go pink but I want a purple gradient (it'll fade to pink anyway).

Show her pictures of elderly women with unnatural hair colors. 6

    Do it. Your mom has personal issues that's beyond fixing, and you shouldn't let it control you.

    Just be you and don't let another's opinion stop you. Purple is an awesome color! There's so many brands and shades of purple to choose form. I dyed my hair purple for almost a decade. I miss it. lol

    Your hair, your decision. You don't have to even discuss it with her, just do it and either ignore her comments or begin a mock control of her appearance and see how she likes it

    She might be concerned you're going to damage it, but you're old enough to make your own decision now and she can't stop you

      She's already seen my bottom layers that are bleached a very light blond. They look and feel healthy because I know how to care for them and what treatments to use.
