Is it normal i keep getting little black insects in the wet places in my house?

Its not like its a huge deal but they keep showing up. They are really small but they pop up in wet areas of house where there is moisture. Like in the sink in the kitchen, bathrooms and places like that. They have only showed up since the weather changed. They look like abnormally small flys. They dont seem to be doing anything but I kill them when I see them. The house is generally very clean so am not sure what these things are. Occasionally I also see pitcher bugs but that is even more rare. What are these things? Are they bad? They show up on all the dishes and in my dish washer since they seem to be attracted to water. they are about the size of the head of a Q-tip. So not very big at all. What are they, are they dangerous and how should I get rid of them? Its not roaches or anything so I would much prefer these to that since roaches and pitchers disgust me. They have very small wings and they look like mini versions of flys but they are far to small to be flys.

They are fungus knats. Harmless. They sometimes come around when I have houseplants with moist soil. You can google them and learn more.

  • Nobody can tell you what they are without a picture but I'm going to guess they are gnats. They are likely harmless, but they can get out of control and are dirty. I recommend just making extra sure there are no moist areas in your house and they should die out and go away.

I have those lil bastards too. They keep coming out of this lemon basil plant I have. They live in the dirt I think and fly around and congregate around the sink and stuff. They're like gnats or tiny little fruit flys. No matter how many I kill or how many times I treat my plants with insecticide I still can't get rid of them. I think they're mostly harmless, but they're annoying none the less

Sounds like fruit flies to me. They come in on onions and the like and if you get enough they will reproduce. We get them on papayas, onions and pineapples and they congregate in the sink in the head (bathroom) and galley (kitchen). They only seem to live a couple of days, but if they are breeding it can take a few weeks of killing them before there are no more.
If we try to kill one and miss, it seems they come after us and give us a little, painful bite. Nasty little buggers!

No, these are very tiny when full grown. Maybe it's the ones here in the tropics that bite, and only when attacked first.

        • I am not in the tropics though and the general flys I keep getting are bigger. These flys are very tiny.

Are they flying ants? I hope they aren't termites.

    • Well if they were termites wouldn't they be near the wood? They are only found in my kitchen and bathroom where everything is glass, and tile. They are only found near the wettest area in my house.

I don't know anything about termites. You can probably find something on google, I would look for something but I can't stand all the pictures of bugs.
