Is it normal i hate when people turn something technical into an emotion debate

Is it normal I hate when you try to discuss something technical and people turn it into an emotional debate. Like you could be talking about what would be the most efficient car mechanics wise. Yet someone comes in going completely off topic saying how they love one type of car and how everyone needs to love it since they do. Than say what a heartless dick you are for not loving that car since something stupid like "MY MOM DIED IN THAT CAR". When in reality that persons mother dying in that car has no importance to if that car would run better. Not only is it off topic but come on that's confusing as hell to everyone focusing on the car not who loves the car. If you dismiss the fact this persons mother died you look worse. Even though you have a right to since it had basically nothing to do with original debate.

You use emotion to sway people, when you don't have enough good facts to back you up.

    • Alright sorry if my point was not clear. I mean if you are having a debate and people try to fight fact with emotions while ignoring the facts completely. Like if you trying to decide what car is better and their argument is I love my car since my mom died in this car and gave birth in this car. Yet it has nothing to do with if the car can run properly or not. Like if you say "They are guilty" and they say "Since I don't like them". Well saying "You don't like them" does not make them guilty of anything. It just means you don't like them.

I know what you mean. Some people are just like that and it can be frustrating.

But what do you do after you've crushed their spirit?

            • I have said that before and they start tossing out why they are so much more educated than I am with some degree unrelated to the subject in discussion. So apparently calling you a bastard and saying how uneducated you are means you win even if your argument has virtually nothing to do with the original discussion. Which I thought was asinine but everyone else got a kick out of it.
