Is it normal i feel terribly sick/have awful abdominal cramps after eating?

So, I went on holiday to Florida at the end of June this year, (I've been to America almost every year on holiday since I was born) however when I was there this year, I simply could not eat an entire meal, I couldn't even make a dent in the amount of food I was given which was rather unusual for me as in the past I have always cleared my plate, especially the tasty cuisine of the USA.
The second week I was there, I suffered from terrible diarrhoea, stomach cramps and I vomited a few times too. (I missed the 4th of July because of it, which I was really gutted about.)
Anyway, I got better, came home to Scotland, however my appetite has not changed and if anything, has gotten worse. I still haven't been able to finish a meal, and the portion sizes I have been made or given have definitely been significantly smaller yet I still am unable to make a dent in the meal. This concerned me at first but now it has gotten to the stage where every single time I eat anything, even if it is something small like toast, I feel terribly sick. I have even made myself physically sick just to get rid of the feeling.
I'm not anorexic or bulimic however I have lost weight due to whatever the hell is wrong with me and last night while I was trying to get to sleep, I was absolutely starving and my stomach was growling but I still managed to fall asleep because I would rather deal with the pain of being hungry than the pain I am experiencing from consuming any sort of food. So my question is, is this normal, which I am certain it is not, and do any of you lovely people have any suggestions in order to help me? I'm really worried about my health.

Thanks x

I know this feeling all to well and I am sorry. Talk to a doctor to find out if you have any food allergies or intolerances. It took me two years to discover why my digestive system shut down, as it turns out, my body can no longer digest corn and struggles with soy. Something just flipped and it said, "no more!"

However my sister had a very similiar problem with a much different cause. She caught a nasty bug that paralyzed the muscles in her digestive system.

And a friend of mine who had similar symptoms discovered she had contracted a parasite.

Either way, a doctor will help you figure out how to eat again. In the meantime, try protein drinks. Also, quinoa became my best friend.

Good luck, I hope you feel better soon.

You should be drinking at least 6 cups of water a day, and at least one cup with meals.

It could be IBS - irritable bowel syndrome - I think. It's known to cause abdomen pain and distension (swelling). Go to a doctor about it. :)

Ps. Yay for fellow Scots <3
