Is it normal i feel insecure wearing short sleeves?

I have a lot of self-inflicted scars on my right arm. They're the same color as the skin around them but still visible.

    • It was a long time ago and they were made with metal objects and a lighter, not cutting.

Got ya, and it's good you stopped. Nothing great comes from a habit like that.

Wow, good for you! It's perfectly understandable that you'd feel insecure, but if you can, remember your scars are signs of your strength (since you stopped self harming), not anything to be ashamed of.

Oded here, self inflicted harm. Very common amongst the misunderstood and tormented. A way of believing that yourself is unworthy of love and care. Very unfortunate when it happens but I am very happy to understand from what you have said that you have stopped. Insecurities is a natural human response from those whom were misjudged. Normal yes but also easy to reverse. Simply put, just do it. Just wear the short sleeves. Hard at first however will become easier over time. If you get asked, just tell them you had bad times in the past but that is no longer. Society seems to give off the appearance of being highly critical which in some cases yes however not as much as one would think. Be confident and that my friend is all you need. Best of luck with your endeavors and remember, be brave.

    Oded....out

I have the same exact problem as you except mine are on my left arm since I am right handed. I also don't like to wear short sleeves and it's getting pretty hard not too because the weather is getting hotter and hotter. I don't know how to help you because I am struggling like you. I am also supposed to be going to a waterpark and I have scars on my thighs and they will be very visible when I wear my bathing suit. If you find some way to cover them up please let me know!

yep. i still struggle with it. i can never feel comfortable without being covered up. i've struggled with self harm for 11 years and i have the scars to go with. i dont do it anymore but unfortunately im still left with the aftermath. i get anxious at the thought of doing any kind of activity that would show my arms. i haven't been swimming in years, i cant leave the house without something covering me.

I hate short sleeves but not the same way you do.

It's normal considering what you've done to your forearms. Stop chasing the pain dragon and be a friend to yourself.
