Is it normal i feel i have to keep up with the news despite it causing me stress?

I feel I have to check the news constantly or else I'm "burying my head in the sand" or something. But I end up worrying about the stuff I see on the news.

If it affects your life badly then just don't check it. You can google specific topics instead and watch videos/movies for entertainment. I also don't check the news very often (like it can go months between each time) because some of the news tend to really upset or worry me, it doesn't bring something positive to my life and I either way have no direct use for it. If you want to help the world then donate to a charity instead, just make sure its legitimate. Alternatively help someone in your own life

You can’t generally trust anything that is in the news.

If you enjoy being miserable then constantly checking the news is a good. You'll be a lot happier though if you cut way back. At least I am. Things aren't as bad as they try to make you believe most of the time.

You are making yourself go stressed again, so the logic here is to not read or listened to it.

I read facebook headlines and then try to read the substance and leave out the drama. If it says "new racist policy by Trump sends kids over the border" the translation in my head is "Trump has new policy on illegal immigration".

The problem with news now is the majority of it is just someomes opinion telling you how to think. And theres no way of escaping it both sides do it. I wish they purely gave you the facts. They do this thing alot like "theres a new unfounded and widely scrutinized conspiracy theory" and it doesnt matter how much evidence there is to support it. In some cases I rememver the news organization reported on it saying it was true months earlier. But now since their political party is being damaged by it it starts being called "unfounded and scrutinized".

Unless you want to become a nihilist, then shying away from the news would be a good idea.
