Is it normal i feel guilty and ashamed for the actions of others in my group?

All types of groups: race, gender, nationality, subcultures, fandoms, etc. Unfortunately, there's always an idiot or two in the bunch and sh*t gets blown up and people only pay attention to the idiot and their supporters. Those of us who don't feel the same are lumped in with them or seen as a minority (even when we are not) and it sucks. So I carry around their guilt.

Nigga, you need to break negative connotations and start perpetuating self love and acceptance instead of feeling like a victim of pack mentality. Don't be whack

Stop identifying so strongly with labels, especially ‘fandoms and subcultures’ and just be an individual. Only children need special labels to make them feel special and it’s as immature as pretending to be a unicorn or a mermaid.

tbh labels can be important to be able to identify with a group so you don't get lonely but it does go overboard at a certain point

You shouldn't feel guilty for anyones actions but your own. you cannot control what other people do or say.

As a Hispanic who has certain political opinions and likes certain fandoms I get it.
Whenever one of them from these groups did something stupid, I'd feel ashamed and be like "You're the reason why no one respects us. I really don't like being one of you".
Then I realised these idiots aren't me. I can be who I am, believe what I want, and like what I want without letting certain people ruin things. XD

I feel the same every time I'm in the conservative comment sections I see an antisemitic comment. I know there are some people who are conservative and hate jews but I wont stand for anti semites. Jews dont have to be on one side or another since they arent a political affiliation. They are a group of people thus should be treated with the same respects as every other "racial" group.

Your way of thinking is incorrect. Group think is a mental disorder.

Then stop hanging around with idiots and supporting them. You're not responsible for what anyone else does so no point in feeling guilty about that, but maybe you rightfully feel guilty about not speaking up about what they do to others?

    • I do speak up, but my voice is drowned out by the others.

Why are you hanging around with people who drown you out?

People can have the conversations they want to have. If you don’t feel comfortable, walk away.
