Is it normal i don't think iran is as bad a country as shown in the media?

I have lots of internet friends from Iran and they're all cool people. They all have normal lives and are pretty interesting people if you can look past them being Muslim. In fact religion doesn't appear to be a big part of their lives. Even some Iranian women are my friends and many of them are beautiful and have a lot of freedom, and are also very smart. My Iranian friends never talk about religion or say bad things even though they know I'm American. I really do think Iran is not as bad a country as the media tries to show. Maybe they have bad leaders but any country can have that, it doesn't make the people bad. And Iran is a lot more liberal and open minded compared to their neighbors like Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, etc. They just get a bad reputation from the media, that's what I think.

I really don't think any intelligent person would think all Iranians are "bad", any more than all Americans are "bad". But it is a fact that living conditions for many in Iran are very difficult and their government appears to have little interest in improving the situation. Their government's stance on nuclear proliferation is opposed to by most of the nations of the world and has added to the misery of the populous.
It seems that this is changing with the new government, but at any rate, it is no more the Iranian people who control their government's actions, than it is the American people who controls things like the budget or our involvement in other countries' internal politics.

    And I ran
    I ran so far away
    And I ran
I ran all night and day
    Couldn't get away

Eighties music will only get you so far: the answer is inside yourself.

I've heard that most of the media in America is untrue. They edit and twist the truth. I suppose that it is a way to keep the people under control.

That's why many Americans get their news from the BBC. It's very sad that there is no longer any journalistic integrity in the US any more.

The media wants to distract people with celebrity gossip quite often these days too.

I'll make a note of the BBC. I would watch the channel more often if it didn't go in and out of service.

Easily available on the web (we have no TV). Perhaps the UK news is biased, but they have no reason to do so to US & international news.

  • You know, I have heard the same. I have talked to such people, and even the women that are apparently getting beaten on a daily basis (?) say that the media version of it all is just so off base.

No country is "bad" as such, you've gotta be there to know. Try sifting through the loads of propaganda on television. The government sees Iran and muslims as a threat but a true introspection will lead you to much different conclusions.

Why dont you try living there for a few years. Than come back to your country wherever you are and see how it really is. People in that country are going to say its great. People outside that country are going to say it has flaws. This goes for every country in the world. The US will laugh at the English bad teeth, the English will laugh at the fact they think the US pronounces English wrong. Why not make your own conclusion and go live there yourself.

The US has had very poor diplomatic relations with Iran (or none at all to be more accurate) ever since the hostage crisis that took place over 30 years ago. And all along this time, they have waged a subtle propaganda war against them.

Honestly, I have my doubts that Iran is even trying to build a nuclear weapon as the US and allies often accuse.

The media often tends to portray skewed views of certain countries, often unintentionally.
