Is it normal i don't care about medical advancements due to overpopulation?

I feel like curing cancer, aids, etc only seems like a great thing to do on the surface because the harsh reality is that the world is getting more people than it can handle and we need more people to die off. I believe that medicine is great for curing small problems like minor infections and diseases that cause great discomfort, but are not fatal. But, for all of the stuff that is frequently terminal, we should just leave the cure research alone because people are supposed to die, but we keep saving them and multiplying exponentially.

I don't want to sound like I have no respect for human life. But, I really do think that we are having too many children and are letting too many people live past their time. I'm not religious whatsoever, but I think stopping death this much is just going to lead to inevitable deaths when we don't have sufficient supplies for our crowded populations.

I understand where you're coming from and have contemplated the question many times.

I will agree with you on most of the things that you stated. Populations are only going to increase (who knows at what rate and where) and resources are going to be continually strained and drained (for some nations). So what do we do? If at this rate, the life expectancy keeps rising, people will continually live longer and that's where the trouble comes in.

Things such as war, poverty and diseases have naturally kept populations lowered a bit through history. And now it seems like we're trying to reverse that (at a rapid rate).

As crude as it all sounds, holistically, yes it's good for us as a race to have diseases, wars and other things like that, to keep our population down enough to sustain living.

But the big question remains: what if you or a loved one gets something like cancer, or a terminal illness, do you still feel the same way?

That is something, we as humans, have to juggle with as time progresses. It should be interesting to see how it plays out.

Of course I wouldn't, but that has nothing to do with anything because I'm talking from a detached standpoint.

If you leave emotions out of it, it leaves the question open for whether or not this is a truly beneficial thing in the long run or not. I'm sure plenty of people want cures just because of the emotional charge they have backing it. But, when you break it down with no emotions clouding your opinions, the question is open for more debate.

I used to agree with that 100%. But since I've had kids my opinion has changed. I can't imagine NOT fighting as hard as I could to stay alive for them if I were to get sick. Or even worse, if they got sick.
I guess they've softened me up, although at the core of the matter you're right, overpopulation is a major problem, and its getting worse all the time. That fucking Duggar family that had the 20 kid reality show should be euthanized. In public.
Also I support the shit out of abortion.

Simply put... let wars and political greed handle that... either way, the advances are only for rich capable people and their control over us... after that... worry only about yours and check if you can pay a cancer treatment at least... if not... you are damn right... Why bother if I'm part of the people who deserves to die because of being poor? :1

I can completely understand where you are coming from and believe me you aren't a monster. This world is getting too overpopulated but mass genocide, aside from nature, would be hated by people. Personally I believe that every country should adopt China's one child policy. I think that the medical advances we've made is amazing but some people need to die in this world so that we can eventually lead healthier lives in a better planet.
