Is it normal i created a class?
The college that I attend has a policy allowing students to do independent/directed study with approval from a teacher. This policy is most commonly used to help students get a necessary class when they can't fit the regular class into their schedule but I used it instead to create an entirely new class, one that the school didn't offer and the teacher himself knew even less about the subject than me.
It was an extremely unique subject with little research having ever been done on it before so I figured having a professor help would make studying it much easier.
Anyways, the other day I was talking to a faculty member at the school to have her help me fix up a resume and when I mentioned the class I'd made she was completely shocked by it, she said that's just not something you hear about and she thought it would be the best thing to put on my resume.
Anyways my question is this, is it really that unusual to make a new class with your teacher? I know not every student does it but by her reaction it seemed like she'd never encountered a student who had done it before. Is it really that unusual?
