Is it normal i can watch snuff films with no reaction?

I've seen it all on the internet, from people cutting their dick into pieces to the 3 guys one hammer video.
I don't particularly get off on watching videos of people getting tortured and killed but people have shown them to me and I don't feel any reaction to them.
Most people seem to be really bothered by these videos. I'm not sure why they're popular, I guess for shock value.
I don't support killing, torturing and raping people and putting it on the internet, but I realize that it's a fact of life that this stuff happens as fucked as that might be.
I'm sure if they hooked my EEG up while I watched them there would be no reaction.
I'm wondering if this is normal or not.

You're a sociopath. Learn to control your impulses.

Isn't it the opposite? Not reacting IS sort of controlling your impulses. Truthfully I never reacted either. If you can't keep a straight head go home.

Sociopaths have the same reaction as you do. Think about it. You are completely calm, relaxed and bored watching disturbing stuff. So why not DO that stuff? Perhaps becoming an ax murderer will make the evening more interesting.

Correlation is not working in your favor. Please know that your reaction is not normal.

Just because someone's a sociopath, doesn't automatically mean they'll be a murderer. It could possibly make it more likely but, at the same time, if someone really feels no reaction to death then it may actually make them less likely to kill. If killing causes no thrill, in fact if they even consider it boring, why do it?

In a different light, couldn't someone who finds it horrifying be more likely to kill another because of the intense emotion it causes? (E.g. adrenaline junkies do things they find scary for these feelings.) Moreover, to generalise, pure sociopaths aren't really affected by other's emotionality (i.e. if someone is sad they will not feel that sadness, though they may be aware of it) and, due to this, are a lot more logical and calculating without other's emotions clouding their judgement so much. To this type of sociopath, murder is less likely because they will be fully aware of the consequences (death penalty or life imprisonment) and won't be as likely to get riled up with anger (a common motive in non-planned murders) due to the other person.

So, in reality, though it may seem someone who doesn't feel anything towards torture and etc. may seem like a potential murder, it honestly depends on many other circumstances and can - in some ways - actually make them less likely to kill others.

          • Something I've wondered, because I get similar comments online and in real life, is if I am some kind of "prosocial psychopath".
I don't have much emotion yet I choose to do good things. I don't seem to be able to understand other peoples emotions at all, but at the same time I do care about other people. The only reason I could see killing someone is if they hurt me or someone I cared about and I know I wouldn't lose any sleep over it, but that seems normal to me.
I do have a bit of emotion but I sometimes feel like I choose to feel them.
I wonder if I have traits of the condition but choose to be a good person anyway. I'm not driven to do good by guilt the way so many people seem to be but simply because I think doing the right thing just makes more sense.

Your post here basically describes me in a nutshell, with exception for the part where I think I would more just feel emotions sometimes but not prone to it like most people. Kind of good to know that I'm not the only one that is like this. haha

        • While I don't feel anything from these films I don't feel like doing anything I see in them. The idea of doing these things is not appealing to me.

I've seen a lot of shock videos and didn't feel anything at all. I usually just pretend to feel something just to seem normal when others were around.
For some reason animal torture videos legitimately disgust me though.

    Why do you watch them?

    • Various reasons. I first saw them because people have shown them to me. I sometimes watch disturbing movies and films to see what all the hype is about but it never does anything for me.

If they never do anything for you, then why do you keep watching them. What is the point in you continuing to watch these videos?

        • It's not like I watch them all the time.
Most movies in general bore me. As for actual snuff films, usually people have shown them to me by sending me links or in person. I probably have a more disturbed group of friends than most people.

You're missing the point. You didn't answer my question either.

            • I did answer your question. I watch them because they are shown to me. I don't sit around all day watching them, but I don't have a problem with watching them either.

  • Yeah, I have watched a few, I sometimes get in the mood for them, it's something new to see. I tend to be unmoved by them, though, I just like the gore.

  • I brought this up earlier today to someone who told me to watch "A Serbian Film" which is supposed to be one of the more disturbing videos out there. I just watched the uncut version and was disappointed. I definitely see what's disturbing about it but it wasn't as bad as the reviews make it sound.

I think part of why I feel no reaction to these things is that I have way worse nightmares than anything I've seen and don't even feel distressed by my nightmares. I feel desensitized by my own subconscious.

I feel a lot of awareness of how horrible things can possibly be and no matter what things can always be much worse.

    • I watched it and wasn't moved by it in any fashion at all. People are a bit too sensitive these days...Or we're just nuts. >:P

Someone chopping off their own dicks on camera and posting it I think should be reported. This is sign a person is psychotic.

      • Most snuff videos should be reported. The thing about them though is that they are usually anonymously posted. The video of the guy chopping up his dick did not show his face. Before he chopped it off he put it on a cactus and hit it with a hammer until he jizzed on the cactus and then hammered a nail down the hole and tore it in half down the center.

I think a lot of people would agree with you in regard to 'A Serbian Film'.

There are a lot of possibilities and explanations that could be considered to explain why you're like this - you could lack empathy, see yourself as "superior", devalue human life or simply be "numb" to these kind of things and not realise that this is a real thing that is happening and not just another ridiculous internet video.

      • I very much realize these things happen.
I don't devalue others either nor do I desire to do these things.
I just don't feel any reaction.

It started out as curiosity for me, and the rush of getting scared. Now I'm just numb to them. So I can understand you. Though sometimes they do make me paranoid of others.

I can handle the snuff from Muslim websites filming them killing/torturing American soldiers and seeing the dead lifeless battered bodies. I don't feel anything for them, idk if it's that I myself could kill innocent people and not feel anything, or I just don't care if some dumbass who signed up to defend a bullshit corrupt country gets what he has coming.
But I tried watching that video where a guy cuts his dick and balls off, I threw up when he squeezed the testicle out.
