Is it normal i avoid going on facebook so it looks like i have more of a life

To keep up appearances that I have an interesting life, I try not to spend too much time on Facebook. This is mainly to look less boring to 'friends' and make it seem like I do stuff. If I stay in on a Friday/Saturday night, I try make sure I don't go on Facebook until after 12 so it looks like I've been out somewhere! It's really sad, I know.

I do actually live a life. I don't just stay in all the time, I just do it to seem more interesting than I am, I guess. Bit pretentious in a way.

Is this normal?

I haven't written a status in years. Facebook is dying a slow a painful death.

It is pretentious. But I can understand it - when your life isn't exactly what you want yet, it's normal to want it to seem more exciting than it is. It doesn't help when you see your friends on the news feed sharing their seemingly more exciting lives.

But this is a pretty poor method, in my opinion. People are as likely to think you're not posting on Facebook because you haven't got anything interesting to post, as they are that you're out being too exciting and interesting to 'check in'.

Delete it like I did, Its an addiction that can easily be kicked with the push of a few buttons and the click of your mouse. Why do you care what people think of your life, arent you the one who has to live it?

How much better is life without it? I'm amazed at how much my life has improved from simply deleting a website.
I was so addicted I was constantly preoccupied with it. Even when I was offline, it felt like I was online, because I was thinking about it, comments people made, my status's etc.

State on FB that you have a new person in your life and are too busy right now. That will fuck them up and leave them all wondering.

It would be a lot more normal if you just deleted your facebook.

Here's an idea. How about you delete it entirely?

  • Why don't you just disable it completely? Why do you feel like you even need a facebook at all?
