Is it normal i am irritated at my mom for being drunk most of my life?

I probably shouldn't be bothered by it because she doesn't do it anymore. But the embarrassing memories still Linger. She was a good mom and housewife. My other sibling and I never wanted for anything. She helped me raise my kids. She was never mean but she was very embarrassing, trashy and stupid when she drank.I hated my friends coming over and hearing the neighbours gossip about her. She completely ruined my wedding. My dad was a great dad but not a very nice husband and her folks were pretty horrible to her as well. I try to keep this in prospective but it still pisses me off.

Normal. I am kind of a drinker myself when I get depressed (usually from people figuratively shitting on me too often) and when you get to that place where your depression and/or anxiety is harming your functioning, it's hard not to bring yourself back up by drinking. People say "just deal with it" but that's probably the shittiest thing to say to someone when you don't see what could be years of shit piled onto shit piled on to shit in their lives.

Sorry for the speech, I'm glad you're not too bitter. It's no excuse for her behavior but parents are as weak and fallible as any and I hope you understand. I don't have kids btw ;)

Everybody in the world has issues with their parents in some way or another. It's fine to be pissed, go shoot up a street sign or punch a pillow. S'natural. At least you can still get past the anger and recognize she was otherwise a good parent. You sound like you got your shit sorted to me, rock on.
