Is it normal have a theory why there is so many weight problems in america(usa)

In america is tends to be either extremely fat or extremely thin. Yes this is not everyone and I am not judging anyone. I do not mean people who are slightly overweight either. I mean the people who weigh as much as a elephant and can not get scans in a regular hospital. This is not attacking fat people either. However I think with so many people overweight that it creates a psychological fear in a lot of thin people. It makes them so fearful of being fat that they will do anything to stay thin. So it creates bulimia and anorexia. Now I do not think we should go point out every fat person and laugh but I think having so many overweight people might be creating this issue.

Anorexia nervosa was discovered before obesity was particularly common, though.

    • I was saying why it seems to be so common in the USA. As USA seems to be plagued with weight problems.

Hmm. Give me a bit, I'm going to investigate.

I think you're absolutely right. Overweight people are shunned in our society, despite there being so many, and those who don't have weight problems are pressured to avoid becoming part of that statistic.

Genetics. That is all. Just stop having fat people reproduce and problem solved.

I agree almost completely with your theory, I get pretty frightened whenever I see someone obese, makes me think of how anyone would or could let themselves into such a condition and causes me to work extra hard to never get to that point.

I'm bulimic (although I sometimes sway towards anorexia), and based on my own experiences, I disagree. I don't find situations where I'm around a lot of fat people remotely triggering, and I never have. I don't avoid fat people or find being around fat people distressing. If anything, I find being surrounded by fat people less distressing than being surrounded by thin people, because I compare myself to thin people.

The causes of anorexia and bulimia are varied and complex. It's not just a matter of being afraid of being fat. Nobody would do this just to be thin, really.

Interesting theory but most Americans that are overweight fall into the overweight to obese category, not the morbidly obese.

      • I have noticed that. A cupcake is a size of golf ball but a muffin is size of a grape fruit. I guess since its healthy you have to make up for all those lost calories.

I think bulimia and anorexia are caused from having a low self-esteem and psychological abuse from other people, not the sight of fat people. If anything, fearing fat people is just a byproduct of the disorder.
