Is it normal for women to give off slight pheromones?

During a talk with a friend of mine, he said he'd been told that women gave off subtle pheromones when they were around a mate they were attracted to. It sounds like total bullshit to me, but do you think any of that is true?

All humans produce scents that could defined as pheromones. Whether women specifically give off pheromones when aroused is hard to say.
It would seem likely to some degree.

However it is really hard to say how much effect pheromones have on humans, these things aren't well understood. Some people trying to sell you things will probably claim otherwise. It could be that we have inherited some of the pheromone genes from other mammals but no longer have the right genetic makeup to use them or we still use them just to a much weaker degree than some other mammals like mice.

One day I am sure science will be able to tell us these things but at the moment it isn't well studied enough to draw definite conclusions.

      I think we've had a mini-discussion about this before.

I'm firmly in the camp that "pheromones" is complete bunk. It's just a marketing buzz word to try to trick you into thinking that their perfume is actually a magic love potion that does something other than just smelling nice.

Sorry, spraying a can of funky smelling mist on your chest doesn't get you laid. It takes a whole lot more charisma and luck to do that.

Pheromones are bunk but a girl's natural scent when perceptible such as sweat or urine is a big turn on for me.

  • Not by who they are attracted to, simply all the time. Same with men.

    Duh.

      It's not my theory..

He said if a woman was secreting such a pheremone that the man would have an erection without sexual stimulation and I burst.. out laughing.

Apparently he got this from a guy with a supersize IQ but I don't know if he has his facts straight.

      • I don't really know anything much about this, but I'm sure I heard or saw something about men and women having them all the time or some such poop.

Yea. I just don't see how it could be of such great influence.

The extremely addictive nature of copulins renders our masculinity useless...and truly makes the sexes equal

Your friend is correct (except about the part that it's only towards people she likes) Every human, male or female, gives off pheromones. It's how we deem who is attractive to us, also it generally keeps us from not being attracted to our family members (Or something like that)

That hasn't been proven. You shouldn't declare something as fact when it is yet to be established as fact.

I was under the impression that it was proven. My apologies for my mistake.

          No problem :)

That's what happens; somebody says something as fact, other people believe it and pass it on as fact - suddenly you have whole swathes of people convinced of something potentially untrue.

We've all got to be careful, and reasonably sceptical.
