Iin, for rich people to not know what a grocery store is?
I used to go to an after school program, that had a few kids who came from higher income families.
On one occasion, I was was talking with two of my peers. One of my peers came from a middle class background, like myself. The other one came from a higher income family.
As we were talking about our financial backgrounds, me and the girl from the same background started talking about grocery stores.
The rich girl asked us what a grocery store was. We were shocked and asked her if she were joking. She said that she wasn't.
We questioned her further and she told us that she had never stepped into a grocery store, that she wasn't allowed to. Her mother wouldn't let her.
Still shocked, we asked her were she thought her food came from. She said she didn't know and assume that it was like magic. They would be out of food and then suddenly they would have food.
We couldn't believe what we were hearing. We did our best to answer any questions that she had and urged her to try going to one, even if she had to go behind her mother's back.
I would like to think that this isn't a common occurance among higher income families. I've known other people from higher income backgrounds and they all seemed to understand what a grocery store was.
I can't wrap my head around her mother's reasoning. I don't understand how someone could raise their child to be so clueless of the world around them. It's crazy! IIN?
