Is it normal for people to try and stop me doing something for charity??

So, I really want to do The World's Greatest Shave this year. A close friend and I think that we should do it together. But, people keep telling me that I shouldn't do it. One of my friends said to me the other day "No!! You have gorgeous hair, don't do it. There are other ways to raise money for charity, than getting rid of your hair!".
You see, I'm a teenage girl. Shaving my head would be a really big thing for me because I'm already really self-conscious. But I figure that it's just hair......it'll grow back! It's something that I feel really strongly about. I've lost many people in my life to diseases like cancer. My uncle, my grandfather and my nan's sisters all passed away due to different forms of cancer. And my mother got diagnosed with breast cancer a few months ago and is starting chemotherapy soon. So doing this is quite a personal thing for me, which just makes me want to it more.
But with people telling me not to, I keep second-guessing myself and I'm not sure what to do.
What do you guys think? Should I get involved and shave my head??
And is it normal for people to try to stop me doing something for charity?

I did a version of this last November. The hardest thing was people who didn't know me looking at me and judging me, as if I was making a fashion statement. Up until that point, I had no idea that I cared about what people thought of me. I had to keep reminding myself I was doing it for a good cause.

I'm obviously in favour of your doing this but you may want to invest in a swimming cap the same colour as your skin, so you can see in advance how you are going to look.

That's really good of you :) I was considering doing that instead, but my hair has highlights and things through it and I don't think that alot of organisations accept colour-treated hair

Depending on how long your hair is, you should just cut it short and donate your ponytail like I did. There are alot of very beautiful short haircuts, I personally love mine, and someone out there's going to have a wig cause of me :P

Wow, good on you for going through with it! :)
A lot of the people at my school are quite judgemental and rude, but I'm thinking that I might actually do it. Especially cause my mums about to start chemo. As well as raising money for others, I want to show her that she's not alone. But knowing me, I'll probably end up crying while it's happening..........

I did this recently. I've gotten nothing but praise because it was for little kids sick with cancer, other girls called me brave and the teachers smiled in approval. I'm a very, very shy and anxious person but it made me feel so good about myself, I definitely recommend that you do it!

Thankyou so much for the idea!
I'm quite a self-consicious person, so I'm not sure on how I'm going to feel about other peoples judgement if I do go ahead with it. But that's a really great idea
