Is it normal for me to get upset when people wait for me to open doors?

At a local convenience store while I was checking out, I noticed a man standing outside the door as I turned to leave. When I got to the door and opened it for myself the man pushed past me before I could even get through. I've noticed this a lot more than I had before. Its almost like everyone thinks someone else should open the doors especially for them.

Ever since that time I have caught myself hurrying through and pulling it shut behind me. If I miss, I usually tell them in a loud voice "You're welcome!" who is being rude? Me or the person on the other side expecting me to open it for them no matter how full my hands are?

People shouldn't expect anything from anyone. But I go out of my way to do small things like that it makes people happy!

i think it's a distance thing... if theyre a few steps behind you and the door would litterally have just closed as they open it, then you should have the common niceness to hold it open two seconds, but if they run ahead or push past you, then THEY are being rude.

It also depends on which direction the door is opening, gender, age, physical ability, and probably a few more things, like whether the person has something in his hands or not.

And, sometimes, people just have bad manners. I've seen people rush into an elevator before anyone can get out and the same for getting on a bus.

What's it gonna hurt to hold a door open? At least you are being the nicer person...

Leaving a store a woman pushed in front of me and walked out then said "you're welcome" really loudly (she hadn't even held the door for me) i found it incredibly rude. if you act like this then you are definitely the rude one but that guy probably should have held the door for you don't take it personaly people are jerks

how about you use a 6 foot rule, if they are that distance when you are walking through, just wait, if they are farther, don't worry about it

tygeronherbed shouldn't be so judgmental. There is being nice for someone and then there is someone expecting things. It is nice when a person opens the door for someone else yes. But do it for you're own account because you want to not because it is expected. As for trying to close the door really fast. I mean its not that big of a deal... it is just a door :)
