Is it normal for guys always talk about if they had a shower/bath today?

So I've recently befriended a few guys (in university) and for whatever reason, they always make a point of telling me whether or not they've cleaned themselves that day.

Like, I was texting one guy around 10:30 at night. I had homework to do so I said, "gotta go do math! Bye!" And he texted me back, "I'm gonna have a bath and then go to bed. Night!" That same guy has also told me that for the 2 hour gap between his classes, "I'm going to go home to have a shower." This has happened multiple times.

But it's not just him! Two other guys have also said similar things to me, whether it be about their state of cleanliness (ie, one guy with long hair said I couldn't braid his hair because it was dirty and then later he said he was going to shower between classes) and the other guy has also let me know once or twice, "Can't wait to shower when I get home, I feel so gross today."

Maybe I just find it weird 'cuz I don't really talk about showering much (even though yes, I shower every day or every other day at the most) but I don't make a point of telling it to people when I see them, and neither did my friends from my old school. So IIN?

Maybe they just want to assure you of their good hygiene.

Maybe you make them feel dirty.

I say the same things all the time. There's no problem with good hygiene. It's just a conversation filler too. People always blurt out things like 'I'm going to make mash potatoes', even when the person they said it to doesn't exactly need or want to know that information.

I feel this is normal, it "is" a normal activity that isn't too weird to tell people in my opinion. I've had a few female friends start or end conversations with "Just came home from work, about to shower xD be with you in a bit" or "I'm sleepy, gonna shower and head to bed, ttyl!". Of course, being the opposite gender I have to try my hardest to block out the mental image of them showering since its basically a soft pass for imagination but I don't and just carry on. I personally wouldn't say this too much though because then it'd sound like you're actually trying to induce some ideas.

Advertising makes many of us feel self conscious about how clean we are and if we smell bad to others. It's probably just some subconscious reaction to that.

Once you point it out to the guys I'm sure they'll stop doing it.
