Is it normal for gay guys to hit girls?

So in school there was this girl having a dispute with a guy who happened to be gay. So he hit the girl - by pushing her down and punched her, and then she started hitting him back.
And when we had finally stopped the fight. A friend of the girl was like - why would you hit a girl? and someone in guy in my class said - "it considered a girl fight you know"- or something like that. So just wondering if it is considered a girl fight, and if gay guys can hit girls?

          The problem I have with it, like lots of others who've responded, is the inclusion of the word "gay" because that has nothing to do with anything in my opinion

    Regardless of sexuality, your own sex, or the sex of the person you are hitting, resorting to violence is not ok.

    It is the hitting that is wrong. Him being a guy or her being a girl is irrelevant to me.

    I never really understood the whole "hitting a girl" thing . I don't think it's appropriate to hit anyone unless you are protecting someone from a threatening situation ( wont go into details we all know what I mean , I hope ) and not just fighting because you ran out of words . The sex of the people hitting each other mean nothing to me .

    no definitely not! it makes me sick that people think they can get away with shit like that just because they're gay. just because he fancies boys doesn't give him the right to do things that would get any other guy beat up. if she has a brother or a boyfriend or a male friend she should get him to sort this dickhead out just like if it was any other guy.

    No, sexual orientation should have nothing to do with it at all. I feel it's wrong for men to physically hurt women because men usually are simply just naturally and physically stronger than women.

    Hitting is rarely a solution to any problem. Physical violence often leads to more violence, leaving everybody losers.
    I certainly don't understand what being gay has to do with your question. They all sound like a bunch of really immature children, no matter what their sexual orientation is. This is grammar school, right?

    This whole cultural bias we have against hitting women, it's total bullshit. You wanna be treated equally? Well, that means taking the bs you dish out. If ur man enough to stand up to me, get in my face, push me, and throw fists, I'm GONNA treat u like anyone else I would that did that. I treat women equally. And that doesn't change when it comes to getting physical. I draw the line where I draw it with men. I can't count how many times a woman has hit me and I didn't do anything because they were a woman back when I was a kid. And I'm not talking about a girl punching you because you're tickling her or the "stop it" slap most women will give you. But when tempers are high and bitch decides to take it up a notch. "Don't you threaten me with a good time-" and sexuality certainly has nothing to do with it. But using physical violence to respond to WORDS is overkill. In any circumstance.
