Is it normal for colleges to be located in the middle of no where?

I cant imagine how people go away to live at college. Colleges always seem to be in the middle of no where and on a highway. Why do they never put them anywhere reasonable? I mean what if you dont have money for a car? Are you suppose to buy one with your school loans? I know not all college students have jobs either.

Open a liquor store next to a college in the middle of nowhere. Make the big bucks.

Mine is in the middle of a ghetto, a gem in the middle of an eyesore. Such a beautiful campus though I loved living on campus and being able to see the whole campus from my dorm the view was amazing, especially in the morning.

All universities I've seen are in the middle of cities.

    I've experienced something similar.

I went to a high school that was out in the country for my 10th and 11th grade years. The old high school became a middle school for 7th and 8th graders.

I've been to a large university in the middle of a city, and the one I'm at now, which is a large university in the middle of nowhere. I definitely preferred the former because all anyone does here is drink and party, and there is nothing else to do.

I'm in the middle of a bunch of fucking wheat fields. If you need to travel somewhere, the Greyhounds is an option. It kinda sucks though.

This isn't really the case in the UK - Universities are generally centrally located in towns and cities, close to amenities and ample residential housing.

    So it's not normal here.

Let's see, Brown and RISD are in downtown Providence, RI. There are more than a dozen colleges in metropolitan Boston. There are more colleges in NYC than I can count. Same with Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit and most other cities in the USA. Perhaps you just need a bit more information; try google!
