Is it normal for certain situations to trigger fuzzy feelings in my scalp?

Sometimes, such as when someone performs an act of kindness, I get this strange prickly feeling that extends from the front of my head all the way through my scalp and sometimes down to my neck. Also, if people draw on my hands, touch me in certain ways, if I hear a woman's heals clop, or if i observe someone doing something that requires great dexterity, I will have that strange feeling. Classical music and great whistlers also seem to set it off when I'm in the mood.

That happens to me, too! I just thought I was getting goosebumps on my scalp or something, but it never happens when I'm cold. I'll have to pay attention to what triggers it the next time it happens.

I do get this other thing sometimes. Underneath my left shoulder blade I'll get this weird sensation. It's tough to describe, but it kinda feels like someone's running their fingers through my skin to touch my muscles. That's not a perfect description, but when I was little I used to think some of my blood cells were bigger than the rest and that when I felt that it was because those messed up cells had cycled back to rub against that vein in my back or something. Like I said; tough to describe.

That one only happens when I'm trying to sleep and it feels so creepy! I kinda like the scalp prickles, but I really hate how that stuff on my back feels.

Is it a tingling feeling that you get in your shoulder blade? When I experience ASMR I get these tingles in my scalp, it travels through my right leg. It sometimes feels like someone's running their fingers through my skin, as you described.
You should watch some ASMR videos on YouTube and see if you get that "tough to describe" feeling in your shoulder blade. If not, it might not be ASMR related.

Checked out some of those videos. My scalp prickled right away and after a while my shoulder started doing that... whatever it is.

        So that's pretty cool ^^

Thanks for suggesting the ASMR stuff (I didn't even know it had a name)

Yeah, most people don't realize it's actually a "thing". You're welcome and I'm glad I could help.

I get it usually when I'm listening to the best part of a song, have an epiphany or a panic attack, and when someone hugs me :).

      • I think it's fair to say that if it's not pleasurable, it's not ASMR.

Same triggers and the same feeling?

          • Regarding my experiences, I can obviously only speak for myself. But it's unanimously agreed upon that it's a very pleasurable feeling.

Triggers vary, but common ones include whispering, scratching sounds, and observing quiet, skillful tasks.

All the videos set me off. Thinking about the triggers sets me off.

My grandmother just put on the opening track for West Side Story. The drun rolls and soft clicking are driving my insane in my shoulder blade.

Yeah, I have to agree with you. ASMR is a nice feeling.
I don't see how there's people with ASMR who don't enjoy it.

Yeah. I thought I was the only one who found it not so nice. I know a few people on IIN have it - True is the one who told me about it in the first place.

I can certainly imagine why you wouldn't to enjoy it. It can be quite a creepy sensation. I enjoy it myself though, although not as much as some people seem to and most of the common triggers do almost nothing for me. Most of the triggers are eerily soft sounds, but I prefer harsh sounds and listening to soft ASMR only makes me feel frustrated and compelled to seek out something that sounds harsh and grating (loud scratches and scrapes). A lot of people are probably the opposite to me though.
