I always make it a point to hold the door open for people, both men and women. Just a habit of trying to be nice. For the past two weeks not one single black woman has said thank you put anything. Then there are the ones who think you are trying to set them up for flirting.
Ladies grow up and get some class.
Depends on the area. If you live in the city and most of the women have the weave, booty choking pants/shorts, and a shit ton of jewelry, then most likely they will think you're flirting and ignore you, since they get flirt with all the time due to their choice in outfits.
Even though I'm a woman myself, I love being polite. I tend to hold the door open for elderly, men, and women. Men around my age or younger tend to feel awkward, and give me a quiet thanks, which is okay, but amusing too. It wasn't until I moved out the city that I actually were getting "thank you" from people more often, even in the ghetto areas people are nice; so it's not a race thing, but more environmental.
you complaining about this shows you're not doing it to be gentlemanly but to get a response from women. you remind me of those fedora wearing "gentlemen" that always say m'lady
Go to a black Walmart in the middle of the day. They're assholes. Go to one at 6pm, they're not assholes (unless your Walmart's more ghetto than mine).
I hold doors for women too... but I let them know (with my body language) that I don't plan on standing there waiting too long.
Once they reach the doorway I fuck off and carry on with my life and they can close the do' their damn selves.
I rarely don't get thanked.
Your problem is that you go out of your way and even probably let them pass before you carry on with your stuff.
A lot of women tend to get edgy when a guy holds the door open for them. They expect to get hit on as they walk through the door. So a lot of them want you to think that they are a cold bitch and avoid the hassle of being hit on by you. Can you really blame them? I have no explanation why you're having this problem with being gentlemanly towards black women. I do this all the time (to females of all races) and sometimes I get the same reaction as you have described in your post. But I try to remember where they are coming from and thus understand. I still find it a pleasant experience to hold a door open for a lady no matter if she is black, white, Asian, Hispanic or whatever race that lady might be. I suspect that you find it pleasant as well. So what you are experiencing is normal. And it's not only from black women. Quit whining for goodness sakes.
Because I do it for me these days I don't even look at them, I just look away off into the distance or something.
Or sometimes if they don't say anything I will say "You're welcome"
I don't expect it or need it..... It's just an observation. So I still do it because I want too
