Is it normal for an online friend to end contact so he doesnt catch feelings?

We know each other for a few months and live in different countries. He says he likes me a lot and cares about me but says he doesnt do online relationships so he doesnt even want to remain in touch as friends. This pains me because I want him to be a part of my life not sure yet if as friend or something more but guess I wont have to decide because he told he he needs space and will contact me himself when he is ready. Is this normal or do you thing there is another reason he has pushed me away because I think hes gone for good

It sounds like he pushed you away for the reasons he said he did; I don't think there's another reason or that it's your fault or anything. That sucks though! It sounds like you guys were really hitting it off and I'm sorry to hear it turned out like this. But I can see where he's coming from if you live in different countries. Long distance relationships are pretty stressful whether they're romantic or not and maybe he's just not in a situation to deal with that right now. It all basically just sounds like some unfortunate circumstances.

Anyway, best of luck! Hope you work it out/move on/feel better soon!

I do have to question how he could "have feelings" for someone he's apparently never met in real life (unless you've skyped, then I guess it's slightly more real).

If I'm keeping it real though, I think he did the right thing. Being in the friendzone is painful, and I think getting yourself out of the situation is more mature and productive than forcing your romantic feelings onto someone who doesn't reciprocate.

It's not your fault, you haven't done anything wrong. But sometimes people can't "just be friends" with someone they have strong feelings for. Maybe give him a few months to get over it and then get back in contact to see how he's doing.
