Is it normal for an adult over 18 to not know these terms?

Cyst, Cystic Acne, Staph infection, Acne. I mean I understand these are medical terms but when I was in public middle school the town every so often would have a "Red alert" for all places about the spread of a Staph infection. Usually an area with a lot of people like School, Jails, Sheriff department, Charity organization that house troubled youth, fire department. I understand these could be considered medical terms but I guess I just assumed most people knew them. The full term is Staphylococcus and Cysts are Cystic acne.

I don't think I've ever heard of a Staph infection. It's just never come across my radar.

Staph is one of the more common Antibiotic resistent bacterias in this country. It often appears in hospitals and causes complications due to an already weakened immune system.

OP- I can't say whether or not I was aware of staph in high school. I know it wasn't common where I grew up, so that likely attributes my ignorance of the disease. I had no reason to know it and didnt know anyone with it. Acne should be common knowledge since few escape puberty without experience it themselves. That is weird. But staph is understandable, it isn't a common experiece.

I was having unprotected sex with some truck stop hookers one time and latter my Doctor introduced me to a whole bunch of medical terms I hadn't heard before.

I know staph, acne and cyst, but I'd never heard of cystic acne (though I s'ppose I can imagine, and it doesn't sound nice.)

I'm going to say normal. I wasn't taught about what it was back when I went to school a decade ago. I only knew what it was after reading about it in a WWE magazine article. I then asked the teachers what it was to try to learn more about it, (I didn't have a computer at home at the time), and they didn't know what that word was.
