It's none of my business granted, but I'm curious and this is a website about judging.
Is it normal for a mother from.a well off family to brag she's proud of her daughter for getting a summer job and then to say she's even happier that the money will go into her own (the moms) pockets to spend. This struck me as odd.
I think it is normal for a parent to be proud of their child for picking up a summer job and wanting to be responsible. What is not ok is her taking that money and spending it willy nilly. If the mom was taking it and putting it in a savings account so the teen wouldn't spend it that's different.
I agree it's normal to be proud, but mom basically said that mom was going to have fun with the money. To me that was like huh?
Having a child pay rent and contribute to the household is about responsibility. What the parent does with the money is their business. If they want to enjoy it they can. If you rent an apartment from a landlord, they can spend the money on whatever they like, it's the same thing. Just because she is a parent doesn't mean she shouldn't be allowed to enjoy it. If the family is well off, the child is likely well taken care of and coming out ahead in the long run anyway.
I quit school after the 9'th grade. My father had died so i paid rent. And not having a high school education has not heart me. I learned the value of work and have retired 2 times. I got bored after the first one. So I learned locksmithing. And started my own business.It was a lot more fun and prophitable than working for the county. Truck and auto only. I didn't like house or business door work.
So nothing wrong with giving er some but not all.
Why is the mom taking the money? They made labor laws for a reason. Other than that, very nornal for a parent to be proud of their child and encourage them to work for their money. Key word:their.
