Is it normal for a restaurant to offer drinks on the house then get mad

so did a murder mystery theater at a winery.Wasn't a lot of people there. But did make a little money and got another gig in the process. The owner offered a free round of drinks and food on the house and then got mad when I ordered a mixed drink.I did ask beforehand if all drinks were included. So I am like forget it and he says no , but I have to pay for my appetizer, which was under five dollars.I don't care because everything was awesome, but he kept looking at us weird all night.

What he meant was..A free, cheap drink..Like a draft beer..Not a mixed spirit that costs him money. He can write off drafts as spillage, but the bottled stuff is counted and measured. Guy sounds cheap to me.

He probably meant a basic beer or soft drink (soda) not something out of the movie 'Cocktail' Having said that though, if he offered you 'food' then you should not have had to pay for your entree or appetizer at all. Ultimately sometimes people make promises they can't keep or do not want to keep and promises they don't expext people to take them up on. There's nothing worse than if someone trys to make you feel guilty for taking something they have offered in the first place.
