Is it normal for a hangover to be a valid excuse for a sick day?

My boss is suspicious but the truth is I always get drunk on Sunday night cause I get anxious that my weekend is almost over. So I call in sick a lot, almost always on a Monday.

Those people are the worst. Everyone knows why they don't come in on a Monday, they aren't fooling anyone. It's totally irresponsible. I've drove to work with a bucket between my legs, puking my guts out because I was legitimately sick, and still made it. I have no sympathy for people who come to work hungover.

I'm surprised they can even hold a job. I really don't drink but there are plenty of days that I just don't want to go to work but I have to so I do. Like my night job is so boring and repetitive but I've only missed 4 nights in the 11 years I've been doing it. I hate it but it pays the bills.

My sentiments exactly. If they don't want to do the job then they maybe the should work from home and stop wasting the time of people who do want to work and don't want to put up with their incompetence.

I would fire you so fast. Suck it up and work through the hangover.

Yeah, either that or stop drinking the night before you've got to work.

In that case, Tuesday becomes the new Monday. Do you get drunk on Tuesday night too?

This feeling you're having about your job might be an indication that you should find a different job, one that causes you less stress. Unless you're getting paid millions and you can retire in a few months, no job is worth your sanity.

Feeling anxious because your weekend is over is no excuse to be irresponsible.

    So you're an alcoholic?

  • I haven't reached this level yet, calling in late yes, never the entire day.

No excuses. You're a fuck up and know it, so you drink. No excuse.

You are asking to be replaced. There aren't a lot of jobs and plenty of people who can handle Mondays.

Never! Not coming to work, cause you got wasted is no excuse!

I hate people who do this. It's immature and stupid!
If I was your boss, I'd fire you right away.

I get drinking with mates on a Friday night, or on a Saturday, but when you've got something to do on the next day. You do it. I love having a few drinks too, but when duty calls - I stay sober.
It's even worse when drunks come at work with a massive hangover. They never do their work properly and you have to open every window, cause it reeks of booze.

Talk to someone about it at the very least (recommend a psychiatrist or therapist); they can help you with your anxiety. Or just have someone replace the liquor in your beer with water :P

Drinking because your nervous is not the way to handle things.
Try other things to calm you down:

    Drinking tea
    Meditating
    Breathing exercises
Not smoking or drinking caffeine or coffee
Doing something fun to distract yourself from your nervous thoughts. (NOT DRINKING)

I dont know you but you could end up becoming an alcoholic. And drinking excessive amounts of alcohol really does damage your body.
