Is it normal for a dude to design, make and wear his own clothes?
I met this Czech guy a few months ago and the first thing I noticed about him was that he had amazing style. His clothes were really unique and he seemed to get a lot of stares from people. The first thing I asked him was where he got this stuff. Some of it looked like the kind of clothing from a fantasy movie or something. It wasn't over-the-top, but it was unique and complicated looking. I was taken aback when this dude told me he makes it all himself. At first, I thought he was joking.
He explained that he used to work as a gaffer on indie films. He got acquainted with and dated a girl from the costume department on one of the bigger movies he'd worked on. She mentioned in passing that she'd made her own prom dress, and that's what got her into costume design.
Anyway, the two eventually broke up, but this dude decided if she could do it, he could do it too. So he learned how to sew and worked on designs. He was hired as an assistant costumer on his next project. He was allowed to keep a lot of the stuff he made, even though he hadn't paid for the materials. Since he was thin and a lot of it fit him well, he started wearing it and getting a lot of compliments and that's what got him to start making ALL of his clothes from then on!
Apparently, he never wears store-bought clothes or jewellery. He wishes everyone wore their own clothes so that it'd be a reflection of personal taste and style. In a sense, you'd be wearing your own personality. Obviously, this guy isn't a slave to trends. He just wears exactly what he wants and exactly what suits him. I think it's pretty cool, but IIN? I've heard of chicks making their own jewellery and dresses, but have you ever met a guy who wears all his own creations?
