Is it normal for a customer to give a small business owner food?

So there's this small business near where I work, and our company is regular a customer of theirs. So anyway apparently other customers (or maybe just one, not sure) frequently give the woman who runs the place food. Mostly it's pastries and such, but not exclusively. Recently she got a plate of apparently homemade rice and lentils with raisins and dates on top, presumably some sort of ethnic dish.

I'm not sure if this is related, but she's fat. (No, I'm suggesting she's fat because people give her food, I'm wondering about the reverse.) Is it normal to give someone food like that?

If you own your own business you can take food as payment if you want to. Food is expensive! Maybe it's a good idea to take food sometimes if you know the customer. I wouldn't take it from a stranger though.

Maybe just friendly fat lady just like the folks who run the small business?

    • Interesting theory, but I think she said it was a man.
