Is it normal for a crazy person to hand over their lives to doctors to get well

i believe i am crazy and that i have most of the personality disorders that exist in this world. i am thinking of checking myself into a mental hospital and i want to give all of myself over to the doctors to get well, even if that means that i radically change every aspect of who and what i am. i would put all of my faith, my freewill and i would relinquish all of my rights as a human being to cure myself of these disorders of my personality. Is it normal for a crazy person to want to do this?

Self diagnosis IS crazy, even if you are not. Be very careful, as what you are contemplating may not work out the way you hope. To be institutionalized is a pretty horrific experience. Your problems might be exacerbated by being surrounded by totally nonfunctional "crazy" people, which you do not seem to be. Try a therapist first, if you must, and see how that works out.
    Good luck.

  • i need to be told what kind of personality is healthy and then i need meds that will change my brain chemistry so that this change will happen. i want to radically change who i was born as because everything about that person is wrong and disordered and ill.

  • Only you can change you. You cannot expect doctors to do it for you. Medication can control certain symptoms in certain people, but this isn't even usually true for personality disorders. Try working on your behavior and try thinking about why you act the way you do.
Just so you know, about %15 of the population have enough traits to be diagnosed with a personality disorder. It's normal to be crazy.
