Is it normal for a boss to date his employee?

I'm a general manager at a supermarket, recently (last week) I was doing random inspection of my store and saw a very beautiful young employee who I don't remember seeing before. I was nervous approaching her but decided to keep it professional and asked her how old she was and how long she had been working here. She replied that she was 18 and this was her summer job. I know it's not unusual for a 36 year old man to be attracted to an 18 year girl, but I wondered how I could ask her to hang out with me outside work without sounding creepy or awkward.

How to do something inherently creepy and unprofessional without seeming creepy and unprofessional... hmm

Can you really picture yourself toasting champagne with this half-your-age-girl's friends or parents and they ask, so how did you two get together? Well it's a funny story actually, I got some great advice from this website and went from being creepy boss to dating my young colleague in a matter of weeks.... it's just not going to happen.

Anyway...general manager (who doesn't know his own employees) good luck, whatever you choose to do.

She's 18 so its legal, so IF she's into ya I say go for it. Don't listen to what all these jerks tell you.

I had a relationship with such an age gap and it was the best thing ever.

It is normal to be attracted to a young girl at any age. It is not right to take advantage of your experence "you know thing she hasn't had time to learn" There exceptions she may know more than yyou. But you don't know that. Keep it pn a professional basis. Unless she makes the first move. She may want to het a HEAD the easy way.

I personally wouldn't try it but it's definitely normal. If you only have sex in mind, I guess.... If you develop feelings your screwed. Just remember, we may be "smarter" with age but they have less to risk.

It is creepy and unprofessional. But the good news is we live in a creepy unprofessional world, so it is normal.

I think it's a risky move for a boss to date an employee. If the circumstances are right, and you're confident the feelings are mutual, then it's acceptable and I think it could work.

However, that isn't the case here. a 36 year-old man hitting on an 18 year-old girl is NOT acceptable. You do that in a workplace and I don't see it ending well.

Inappropriate at work or out of it considering that's where you met her.

    Leave her alone

Want to meet new and interesting people from your company's legal department? Want to meet lawyers and judges who are trying to crucify you? Want to know what it feels like to be sued into the poor house? Want to completely RUIN your life?
If you do want ALL these things and much, much more that come from a sexual abuse claim from a young employee, when things go south in the relationship, then go right ahead and go for it.
Otherwise, keep it in your pants at work and go find your young snatch somewhere far from the workplace.

One would think you'd have to have some basic intelligence to be a general manager at a supermarket, but I guess not.

Wait, surely this girl deserves an older & more experienced lover in her life.
Although maybe he isn't old enough ha?

              Um, sure, why not?

I bow to your vastly superior intelligence & love making abilities oh old one...

you sound totally like a creepy predator. She may be 18 as you pointed out... but you're her boss and there's a huge age difference. Asking your employee her age is also inappropriate.
