Is it normal for a 19 year old to want to be an actress but she's shy?
I know someone who is 19 and has wanted to become an actress since she was 8 years old. I've come to some of her plays and she has an extremely shy presence on stage. She'll be able to say what she has to without stuttering but she'll say it more quietly than all the others. She also constantly bites her nails or stands in a timid way for most of the performance and it makes it awkward to watch.
I've seen her in maybe 7 performances in the past 4 years and she's been the same. When she's off stage, she's fine but the second she's on there, she is a bundle of nerves. I've also seen an indie film she was in that was produced by three of her classmates and in the film, she speaks very unnatural. She's actually aware of that as when she showed me, she said she wasn't proud of her acting.
I also found out she has a top 5 actors of the week faux award ceremony in which the professor grades their performances and puts it on the chart in the theater classroom. Because I've been back stage every time she's performed there, I do see it and she hasn't been up there. She only has 14 people in that class so I think that also speaks for itself.
I'm thinking since she's been in acting classes since age 8 and she's still the most shy out of all of them, that this really isn't right for her. She tells me she plans to get a two year degree and then search New York city for acting jobs because her dream is to become a well known actress or do broadway. As much as I love the girl, I don't think this is a normal thing to do for someone this shy.
