Is it normal father screams at no one at random times?

Over the last few years, I've had to experience my dad screaming violently out of nowhere several times.

Most recently, it occurred in the early morning, when he was downstairs in the kitchen. The rest of my family was just getting up when I heard him scream downstairs. He screams for no particular reason. He's alone downstairs, and he randomly screams. Sure, maybe he's real stressed and screaming helps somehow, but I have some family members who are children and it sure would be great if my dad had some self-control on when he would burst out screaming or not.

Oh yeah, he also slams doors at full force. Even when me and my younger siblings are home. It's quite terrifying.

At this point, I'm not even surprised anymore by his sudden screaming. It's all I can do to hold in my annoyance and not go downstairs and tell him to shut up. I have no interest in asking him about it, or talking to him at all.

Much better to ask internet strangers than the source. Cos the source definitely wouldn't have an answer and internet strangers always do.

What does he say when he screams? Does he screech like a banshee?

Does it sound like he's yelling to someone particular? is he watching tv or doing some sort of activity? My dad usually yells at his laptop when he's under stress, he does some weird stuff too sometimes.

in the movie Boondock Saints 2, there's an old guy who randomly yells and can't help it. I think his name is Fuck Ass. Sounds Italian

maybe schizophrenia or he's just an aggressive abuser who can't physically hurt people so he does it emotionally by letting you know when he slams doors and hits walls that's suppose to be you under his fists. (coming from experience)

Intruding thoughts. No joke: he needs to see a psychiatrist. For everyone's sake.

Have you asked him why he screams? Have you pointed out the effect it has on others, especially young children?

It sounds to me as if he has mental health issues and needs to get himself some professional help
