Is it normal everyone thinks im a nerd?

Everyone thinks im a nerd? Teachers, parents, friends, recruiter, person interviewing me for volunteering position. I dont know how many times I been asked "Do you like to read"? I auctully detest reading or had for most of my life. I finally realize why.

Authors that are famous and published have a lot of issues with pace and very poor story structure it just makes them boring. Personally why I will read practically anything an unpublished author made since generally that stuff goes at a faster pace, and is less stupid than things like "TWILIGHT NOVELS".

I dont understand how everyone just like "Oh its a nerd". I get this from practically everyone. I do read and read 200 plus stories published on fan-fiction. Which is becoming frustrating since I running out of reading material. Nothing I read is really productive either. Its either comic books, fiction, or fan fiction, and horror.

      This.

@OP this is 2015. You have people calling themselves a nerd. I even knew one coworker who wore glasses (when her eyesight was 100% fine) and when asked she said she liked sporting the nerdy girl look

Are we just a bit confused?
"I running out of reading material." "I do read and read 200 plus stories" and yet in the first paragraph you state quite emphatically that, "I auctully detest reading or had for most of my life".
Why do you spend so much time doing something you "detest" so much?
I guess reading only comic books contributes to your awful spelling and grammar. One would hope that once you've passed puberty your tastes in reading matter will become more grown up.

    • Alright I will clarify. I dont read any popular published mainstream books. I usually read stuff unpublished authors ask me to read or stuff on free sites like fan-fiction. If someone says "Hey I made a story will you read it" I will read it for them.

A lot of literature has too much filler or is just has so many issues with story structure. Stuff on sites like fan-fiction get straight to the point. So they have better pacing. I was always told I should be reading harry potter, Anne rice or twilight since reading is good for you. Reading makes you smart.

Those books suck though. I do have some books but they are kind of stuff I found randomly. I dont really know how to go about finding good books but everything people say you should be reading is garbage. One I liked was by "Karen rose". I auctully read Anne rice book "interview with a vampire" and it was boring, so was Harry potter when they forced us to read it in 2nd grade.

It sounds like a matter of a low attention span. You prefer fan fic over full novels because they don't have filler material and get to the point?
What you're saying is novels are 20 times longer and so you get bored on the way.

        • I do have a low attention span. Also filler is pointless. Filler is you need to fill in space but does not necessarily add to the story-line. A lot of times it seems filler is just something they put in to reach page limit. Since you need at least 200 pages for it to be considered a novel.

Most stuff I write maxes at 70 pages but its extremely descriptive. Fans complain about too much filler in anime too since it doesn't progress the plot at all.

I actually read very long fan-fiction. I only read the 15-30+ chapters. Unless I desperate I will read what is called a "One shot" which is one Chapter long. On fan-fiction 30 chapters is about 70 pages. I know since I printed out a fan-fiction that I wanted to read.

Harry potter has bad pacing, Anne Frank isnt very exciting , the way vampire novels are written they have a turning point but nothing else. Which goes against the pyramid our teachers showed us in school on how to write a story. If a writer does not understand this, they have no room writing books.

It does not matter how long it is. Its just either boring, has bad story structure or half of the book just seems to be filler.

Oh, so Dickens' or Hemingway's books are shit to you and Lord of the Flies is full of filler, just to name a a few?
Popular fiction, such as those you've named above, aren't ever going to be classics or of literary value. But they do entertain, and isn't that the point of fiction?
That you find comics and amateur writing more appealing than the classics, perhaps is because you've not read many books that are considered great literature. At least I hope that's the case.

        • Its not entertaining if when plot holes and filler.

          Naruto
          Pokemon
          Bleach

Anime that all have a lot of filler or plot holes and it irritates the people watching the shows since it feels incomplete or just terribly inconsistent. Its the same with written novels.

Graphicnovel/Comicbooks are just stories in picture format. Novels are in written format, and cartoons and movies are the stories in moving visual format. These all come from a story. So no simply being put into comic book format does not mean the story is automatically horrible.

However from what I have noticed in comic no one seems to take up any accountability for proper spelling. Where I have not ever read a novel which misspellings and misspellings can be found in most comics.

Hmm... you don't sound like a nerd, just incredibly boring. And fan fiction is possibly the lowest form of writing that has ever stained human existence. I'm certainly no fan of the Twilight novels, but there is quite a lot of mainstream fiction that is rubbish. The entire Harry Potter series is crap. The Divergent books were especially awful after the first one, which was merely marginal.

It's hard to fathom why not liking a load of crap writing makes you a nerd, or how liking even worse writing (i.e. fan fic) would redeem you. You seem like a confused person.

Well the op's idea of "famous and published" authors are tween books.

So its not a suprise to me since they probably don't know good literature if it bite them

I doubt it would prove interesting. Most likely you're a fan and looking for reasons to prove me wrong. Sorry, not interested in engaging.

For me, it's the absence of anything resembling an original idea. And I thought it was extremely cheap to have the same villain every time. And Harry is a boring character. the supporting cast is more interesting. This is common in authors that love their protagonist as much as she obviously loved him. Bland and over-rated.
