Is it normal everyone is spazzing over me signing for military

I still got to go through meps and have to wait a week. I very perplexed as to why everyone is spazzing. I told my friends and either they said I would suck in the military or that it would be too hard for them so I should not join. Most of my family are all military service vets and said they hated it and so I should not join. I very confused. When I went to HS everyone was so pro military. I dont understand why I am getting so much negative feed back out of school. I always been the most honest, upstanding kid, and was generally the one who fixed everything for everyone, and tried too hard in school and well basically everything. So its not like I wont try. I dont have a lot left to lose, I been trying to find a job for awhile and been turned down since they say I dont have experience.

These days the military can pick and choose. They no longer have to take some loser off the street to fill their ranks. For a hard worker with his/her eye on the future, the military is one good way to get a higher education, without going into debt.
As a career, it's a low paying, tedious way to earn a living without much stability beyond the job itself. Ask any married vet who was sent away for years and left a family at home to struggle by.
Think long and hard before making this decision, as you cannot just up and quit if you don't like it.

Is that why they started taking high school drop outs? As usual you have no idea what you're talking about.

To the best of my knowledge, the military hasn't taken high school drop outs since Vietnam. Where do you get your information, the Tea Party rags?

Yeah as my track record proves I'm so right wing. Idiot.

They do take a small number of drop outs. Usually, if you do not have a diploma, you need to have a GED and/or enough college credits to compensate but there are exceptions and waivers.

That makes more sense than just taking all dropouts. I can't imagine why even the military would take a drop out; I sure wouldn't hire one. Once a quitter, always a quitter, I figure. A GED is not the same as the determination and intestinal fortitude it takes to make it through a difficult situation, and when I hire someone, I expect them to stick it out, even when things get a bit tough.

Like I said job agency or start by doing local jobs for people like cutting grass and gardening or whatever you enjoy for money. You can advertise for free in local papers.

You should go to a job agency.
I would rather be jobless than kill people! But that's me...

As long as you know you definitely want this it is totally fine. Obviously this job comes with a huge responsibility as you have to follow the orders you might disagree with... I think computing and engineering is always in demand ;)

If your as bright as you make yourself out to be, it's kind of a shame that you're joining military. I'm sure there is fine and noble work to be done but it'd be a shame if good mind like yours would be lost. Hell, maybe they should consider themselves lucky they're getting a candidate such as yourself and in that case I wish you the best of luck, the blessing of god, and a safe journey.

    • No civilian job will hire me since they keep saying I dont have enough experience. They also said anything that is not official on job work, is not real experience. I have a few months working as a stocker but they said they either want warehouse work, or 2+ years of stocking, office, food preparation. I think its incredibly unreasonable but how everything seems to work now a days.

Everyone isn't spazzing. I didn't even know (thus wasn't spazzing) and know that I do know I'm still not, so I don't think it's even true, so normal or not is moot.
