Is it normal an acquaintance of mine can perceive 'auras'?

Someone I know has synesthesia - a neurological condition that means the people who have it can automatically perceive strange things. For instance, this person I know sees 'auras'. I.e.people are perceived in different hues like brown and yellow depending on how he feels about them.

I think this ability is kind of awesome, so I was wondering if anybody else heard about people like this.

Anything at all would be helpful, thanks

Did the colour have a particular meaning?

I honestly don't know. He worked with me at the campus radio station so I figured he was just messing around.

There is one thing to see an aura but it's another to assign to it something spiritual or bizarre. It's like looking at a mirage and thinking water, because that's an easier and simpler reason as opposed to learning the complex ways light functions.

And now that I say that, mirage and auras may actually have more in common. Both may be due to a refraction of light due to heat.

I have a mild case of it, some people I know have auras. It is a type of synesthesia. And it's different from "spiritual" auras, for lack of a better word. The same person may have a different coloured aura to two synesthetes, and while "spiritual" auras are always the same. And two people with very similar personalities may have very different coloured auras to someone with synesthesia. Some people in the comments are getting "spiritual auras" mixed up with "synesthetic auras."

Interesting, I'd never heard synesthesia connected to auras before. The most common form seems to be associating letters or numbers with specific colors.

I see white auras over people but I thought that was more likely due to migraines. When I was younger I thought it was their souls, and that it was like a big crown cause it was always on their head...

Our eyes can only see a certain spectrum of colors.
Even at perfect condition and excellent seeing ability what someone's eyes can see, we can all see (in normal eye sight).

This person is obviously 'seeing' things in their mind. It is more emotional psychological than sight ;)
Ask them what colors surround plants or animals or insects and they probably won't know.
Analyzing someone's personality straight away may not be classed a phenomena, it may just be someone who sees parts of the face (or body) that they can make quick determinations on.

If its not the above, then kill it, as it would not be human :)

Auras used to be in medical literature, because they can be related to one's health, but some douche bag along the way removed it from the literature. It's a real scientific thing! In fact nowadays there are cameras than can take a picture of your aura. Auras are interesting bcuz they can represent a personality type, health, psychic ability, etc. Your friend is gifted to be able to do this. There are instructions on how to see your own aura on you tube.

I mean i read a psychological case study in uni about it so I think it's a thing. Solomon Sherevsky. Amazing Russian mnemonist.

        • Well its not a supernatural phenomena. It's a neurological condition that means an individual with the condition perceives things differently. It's very, very rare though and it sounds made up so I don't blame your scepticism.
